Other Gun Makers Nervous Over Lawsuit Against Remington

One of the many factors behind the decision by the board to seek bankruptcy protection for Remington Arms on Sunday was likely the pending lawsuit against the company stemming from the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre.

The 40-page lawsuit, filed two years after the horrific murder of 20 children in Newtown, Connecticut, names as defendants not only Remington Arms (the maker of the Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle that Adam Lanza used on December 14, 2012 to commit those murders) but the entire supply chain. The suit named Camfour, the distributor; and Riverview Sales, the retail gun store where Adam’s mother, Nancy Lanza, purchased the weapon.

John Lott, in his book, The War on Guns, gave his readers an astonishing statistic:

Since 2011, there have been only three mass public shootings in areas where concealed carry was allowed … these cases are very rare. From 1950-2010, not a single mass shooting occurred in an area where general civilians are allowed to carry guns.

Over the entire period from 1950 through February 2016, just over 1 percent of mass public shootings occurred in such places.

Put another way, according to Lott more than 98 percent of the time shooters choose places where their intended victims aren’t allowed to defend themselves with firearms!

Those shooters may be certifiably insane, but they aren’t stupid. Take, for example, Khalil Abu-Rayyan, an ISIS supporter who was planning an attack on one of the biggest churches in Detroit. According to Lott, Rayyan explained his choice of target this way:

Is Common Sense Finally Returning to the Nation’s School Boards?

Thomas Edison said “The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are: hard work, stick-to-itiveness, and common sense.” That may explain why so few accomplish anything worthwhile, because “Common Sense, Isn’t!”

Take the average school board. For years, nearly all of them have bought the argument that if you post enough “gun free” zones around the schools, shooters will take heed and go elsewhere. A parody of this nonsense can still be found on YouTube (see Sources below).

What those “gun free” zones mean to murderous thugs is “safe shooters’ hunting preserves!” John Lott, founder of the Crime Prevention Research Center, has proven statistically that 98 percent of all “gun free” zones have been the target of all mass shootings.

More Schools Allow Teachers and Staff to Arm Themselves

During the Pike County, Kentucky, school board hearing last Wednesday night, the board reached a unanimous decision to approve arming teachers and staff at the county’s 25 schools. Predictably, Executive Director Jon Akers of the Kentucky Center for School Safety said that “every educational group across the country” opposes the idea.

Said Akers, the idea “scares me to death … arming people who are not trained equal to that of law enforcement officers is risky.”

Akers’ argument, like so many being offered by people such as him, just doesn’t hold any water. Under the new proposal, school teachers and staff could volunteer to carry concealed at the schools, but only after passing a background check, a drug test, a mental evaluation, and a qualification course. And they would have to requalify regularly.

Teachers’ unions are nearly out of arguments, especially in light of the massacre of innocents in Florida on Valentine’s Day. Those innocent students had no chance to defend themselves because the school was declared a “gun free” zone. Those opposed to arming teachers say that such programs

Pilots Are Armed, Why Not Teachers?

Chad Robichaux, a former special agent with the U.S. Federal Air Marshall Service, has been here before. Objections to arming pilots following the Islamic terror attacks on September 11, 2001 were the same as those being raised against arming teachers. Said Robichaux on Breitbart News Tonight last Thursday: “Well, you trust them [pilots] flying your airplane. So now people are saying, ‘We can’t trust teachers with firearms.’ We trust them with our children!”

Robichaux worked with the Federal Air Marshall Service in developing and implementing the pilot training program launched following the 9/11 attacks and said that the present hostility toward arming teachers is the same that was voiced against the arming of pilots.

When President Trump learned that a Broward County (Florida) sheriff could have ended the shooting spree almost immediately but didn’t, he told a reporter: “He [Scot Peterson] trained his whole life. When it came time to get in there and do something, he didn’t have the courage or something happened, but he certainly did a poor job – there’s no question about that.”

If the reporter asked Trump what he meant by “something happened” it was not recorded. But the president, who knows more than he is allowed to say about such incidents, might have given away the scam.

Tomie Barker attends Christ Lutheran Church in Seguin, Texas, about 15 miles north of Sutherland Springs. She and her husband own firearms but have never taken one to church, until now: “Why should we take a gun to church? Crazed Atheist Shoots Up Texas Church; Dems Call for Gun Control

Five years before Devin Patrick Kelley entered the First Baptist Church of Sutherland, Texas, on Sunday and opened fire on the 50 or so worshippers there, he had been court-martialed for “bad behavior.” That behavior consisted of at least two beatings of his wife and child, which resulted in him being confined for a year and demoted. He left the U.S. Air Force in 2014 with a dishonorable discharge. According to federal law, someone who receives a dishonorable discharge is not supposed to be able to purchase a gun, but Kelley had recently done just that, after filling out the federal paperwork as he was supposed to do. Kelley was an angry atheist, whom school acquaintances had been unfriending from Facebook because of his angry diatribes.

Las Vegas Massacre: Gun-control Agenda Already Being Pushed

Here is what is known thus far: The shooter, Stephen Craig Paddock, age 64, a former resident of Mesquite, Nevada, launched an attack on an unsuspecting crowd of 22,000 people at the Route 91 Harvest Festival across the street from where he had rented a room in Las Vegas. The attack began just a few minutes after 10 p.m. local time Sunday night, and ended less than 15 minutes afterwards when Paddock took his own life as police were entering his room.

At least 58 concert attendees were killed and more than 500 of them wounded, some injured during the melee following the attack.

The room that Paddock rented his at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino beginning last Thursday was strategically placed so that he had a full view of the concert’s crowd. There were 10 semi-automatic rifles in his room along with many rounds of ammunition. The rifles used in the attack did not have suppressors as noted by members of crowd who said they heard “fireworks,” “firecrackers,” and a “pop-pop-pop” as Paddock sprayed the crowd. The police said nothing about any of the rifles used in the attack having sniper scopes on them, even though the crowd was at least 300 feet away from Paddock when he started shooting.

When Paddock’s brother Eric, who lives in Florida, was notified of the attack, he was flummoxed, saying that it caught him and his family completely by surprise:

Anti-gun Researcher Frightened by How Many Guns Americans Own

The virulently anti-gun group The Trace sent an e-mail blast to its members last week, alerting them to what it said was the danger of an overly and unnecessarily armed American citizenry:

Jennifer Mascia [a member of “TeamTrace”] pulled some numbers from the Small Arms Survey, which gauges gun stockpiles in the hands of civilians, law enforcement, and militaries around the world. She found that with an estimated 270 million firearms owned by everyday Americans, civilians own 70 times more weapons that all police and military services combined.

Mascia is an editorial assistant at the New York Times and was a regular contributor to its anti-gun column “The Gun Report” until it was shut down in 2014. Her source, the Small Arms Survey, is an international anti-gun group purporting to provide accurate statistics on all aspects of private gun ownership worldwide. Unfortunately, its reputation for accuracy has been tainted, with much of its reporting being challenged as “misleading or just plain wrong.”

In this instance, however, the numbers Mascia dug up from the outfit actually understated the “concerns” she expressed about how many firearms are owned by those “everyday Americans.” The real number isn’t 270 million — not even close — but is at least

Michigan Foster Parents’ Conundrum: Give Up Gun Rights or Give Up Child

Bill and Jill Johnson were asked by the state of Michigan to consider becoming foster parents for their grandchild after the state ruled his mother was incompetent to raise the child. Bill Johnson has had a concealed weapons permit for the last 10 years and has carried for personal protection ever since. So when the social worker told him that, as a condition of caring for the grandchild, he would have to provide the state with a list of the serial numbers of all of his firearms, Johnson resisted. A heated discussion ended when the social worker told Johnson, “You are going to have to give up some constitutional rights here if you want to keep that boy.”

The Johnsons took their case to court where, two weeks later, the judge sided with the state: “We know we are violating numerous constitutional rights here, but if you do not comply, we will remove the boy from your home.”
