Have nothing to do with the [evil] things that people do, things that belong to the darkness. Instead, bring them out to the light... [For] when all things are brought out into the light, then their true nature is clearly revealed...

Denver Becomes the Latest “Sanctuary City”

The flag of the City and County of Denver since 1926

Denver’s City Council expanded and codified its existing policies concerning illegal aliens being held in prison for crimes they have committed by a vote of 10-0 on Monday night. City employees are now banned from asking suspects about their immigration status or allowing ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) officials access to their jails to interview suspects they have flagged for retention unless that have a federal arrest warrant.

Said Councilman Paul Lopez: “We’re not going to let anyone [enlist local police] to do their dirty work … not even a sitting U.S. president, not even a rogue agency. If [that rogue agency, ICE, has] any business with us whatsoever … show us a warrant.”

The bill, entitled the Public Safety Enforcement Act, was passed in response to a request from Republican state Representative Dave Williams from Colorado Springs to the Justice Department to investigate the immigration policies being followed in Denver.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said that Williams was just trying to

Ninth Circuit Vacancies Present Trump With Incredible Opportunity

Map of the geographic boundaries of the various United States Courts of Appeals and United States District Courts.

With the death last week of “liberal lion” Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, there are now seven vacancies on the 29-judge court  — a court so liberal that 80 percent of its decision are reversed when appealed to the Supreme Court. However, the unusual number of vacancies means one fourth of the composition of the Ninth Circuit could be Trump nominees, not enough to make it conservative but enough to move the court to the right.

After Reinhardt’s passing, Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Sidney Runyan Thomas offered his condolences:

The Unlamented Passing of a “Free Trade” Pro-illegal Immigration Fraud, Peter Sutherland

Peter D. Sutherland

Peter Sutherland lived just long enough to see his dream – a beige world filled with non-resistant sheeple – seriously challenged. He is quoted as saying that plans to extricate itself from the European Union by the United Kingdom (Brexit) are “insane” and “morally indefensible.” During President Trump’s first year in office, Sutherland was in declining health (he’d suffered a heart attack last year and had never fully recovered) and so quotes about his opinion of MAGA and “America First” aren’t available. But during Trump’s presidential campaign Sutherland was in full throat:

No One is Neutral About “Sheriff Joe”

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Friday, January 12, 2018:

Following former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s announcement on Wednesday that he was running for Arizona Senator Jeff Flake’s seat (Flake is retiring), President Trump tweeted: “Sheriff Joe is a patriot, Sheriff Joe loves our country, Sheriff Joe protected our borders.” Arpaio owes his freedom to Trump, who pardoned him in August after a Clinton/Obama-era judge convicted him of mistreating Arizona’s uninvited illegal immigrant “guests” as criminals and defying her order to stop. At the time, Arpaio called out the judge’s conviction for what it was: “a political witch hunt by holdovers in the Obama justice department.”

Arpaio’s announcement sent liberals into hyperactive overdrive, beginning with DNC’s ultra-liberal chairman Tom Perez:

Sheriff Joe Incurs Wrath of Liberals in Announcing for Jeff Flake’s Senate Seat

Joe Arpaio, the World’s Toughest Sheriff

During an interview with Fox and Friends on Wednesday morning former Maricopa County (Arizona) Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced he would be running for Senator Jeff Flake’s seat in the upcoming primary. Said Arpaio: “I’m doing it for the people of Arizona, for our country and to support our great president.”

This immediately elicited a tweet from President Trump: “Sheriff Joe is a patriot, Sheriff Joe loves our country, Sheriff Joe protected our borders.” “Sheriff Joe” also ticked off vast numbers of liberals for having the audacity at age 85 to run for Flake’s seat in the upcoming primary. One of the most prominent is Tom Perez, the hard-left liberal running the Democratic National Committee (DNC), who said,

Visa Lottery Winner from Bangladesh Fails to Blow Himself up, Reignites Immigration Issue Anyway

FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorist Task Force

Blending in with the crowd of commuters rushing off to work in a Times Square subway tunnel early Monday morning, no one took notice of the immigrant from Bangladesh wearing cargo pants and a heavy coat. The NYPD didn’t know who he was, and neither did the FBI. Akayed Ullah has been in the United States, thanks to the “green card lottery,” since 2011, and in that time has had but a single brush with the law: a traffic violation.

A former taxi driver and currently an electrical worker, Ullah set off the home-made pipe bomb at 7:20 a.m. and — thanks to an apparent inability to follow instructions he downloaded from the Internet — Ullah managed only to burn himself (his hands, his stomach, and parts even lower), while slightly injuring three other commuters nearby.

The Threat to Freedom Isn’t Coming Just from Islamic Terrorists

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Wednesday, December 13, 2017:

Many took umbrage at the Times Square subway bomber’s family’s statement, describing it as whining, “if you don’t like it here, go home,” etc. Adding to the angst was the fact that the statement was issued by a spokesman for CAIR – the oft-maligned pro-Islamic advocacy group – that sounded awfully much like a thinly-veiled defense of Akayed Ullah:

Arizona Senator Jeff Flake Calls it Quits, Blames Trump

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Wednesday, October 25, 2017:

It took Arizona’s junior Republican Senator Jeff Flake 17 minutes in a speech to the Senate on Tuesday to say that he’d had enough: “I have decided that I will be better able to represent the people of Arizona and to better serve my country and my conscience by freeing myself from the political considerations that consume far too much bandwidth and would cause me to compromise far too many principles. To that end, I am announcing today that my service in the Senate will conclude at the end of my term in early January 2019.”

Flake said he plans to continue to snipe at the president: “We must be unafraid to stand up and speak out … I plan to spend the remaining fourteen months of my senate term doing just that.”

Initially one might have thought that Flake was attacking the far left — BLM, George Soros, the members of the radical congressional caucuses — blaming them for many of America’s current difficulties: “We must never regard as ‘normal’ the regular and casual undermining of our democratic norms and ideals. We must never meekly accept the daily sundering of our country: the personal attacks, the threats against principles, the reckless provocations.”

But no,

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Tuesday, October 24, 2017:

The trial of Mexican immigrant José Inez García Zárate for shooting Kate Steinle in July 2015 began Monday morning in San Francisco. At issue will be only whether Zárate (also known as Juan Francisco López-Sánchez, or Francisco Sánchez) shot Steinle intentionally or accidentally. If the jury finds him guilty, Zárate faces 15 years to life in prison.

Opening remarks by Kate’s father, Jim, were presented to the jury through tears. He and his daughter were walking

Many Surprises in Latest Jobless Claims Report

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Thursday, October 19, 2017:

The first surprise from the latest jobless claims statistics is that new claims for unemployment insurance benefits last week fell to the lowest level in 44 years, according to the Department of Labor (DOL): “The advance figure … was 222,000 … the lowest level for initial claims since March 31, 1973.”

The second surprise is that the number of continuing claims (those lasting more than a week) also fell to levels not seen since 1974.

Rahm Emanuel Declares Chicago “Trump-free Zone”

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Wednesday, September 6, 2017:

On the first day of school Chicago Mayor Rahm “you never want a serious crisis to go to waste” Emanuel welcomed students back from summer break to Solorio Academy High School, giving them comfort that, under his administration, they won’t be deported for being in the country illegally. His comments were timed perfectly to respond to President Trump’s declaration that the Obama administration’s illegal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals — DACA — was being terminated. It is estimated that about a third of the students attending Solorio are in the country illegally.

Said Mayor Emanuel, “To all the Dreamers that are here in this room and in the city of Chicago: You are welcome in the city of Chicago. This is your home. And you have nothing to worry about. Chicago, our schools, our neighborhoods, our city, as it relates to what President Trump said, will be a Trump-free zone. You have nothing to worry about. And I want you to know this, and I want your families to know this. And rest assured, I want you to come to school … and pursue your dreams.”

Comfort to those stressed about the possibility of being deported was extended to them by Chicago’s CEO Forrest Claypool as well:

Steve Bannon – Both Friend and Enemy of Freedom – Returns to Breitbart

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Monday, August 21, 2017:

It didn’t take Steve Bannon – Trump’s chief political strategist – very long to bid adieu and pick up where he left off at Breitbart. On Friday he explained his widely anticipated departure:

On August 7th, I talked to [Chief of Staff John] Kelly and to the President, and I told them that my resignation would be effective the following Monday, on the 14th. I’d always planned on spending one year. General Kelly has brought in a great new system, but I said it would be best [to leave]. I want to get back to Breitbart.

Bannon’s Ouster as Trump’s Chief Strategist Largely Self-inflicted

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Sunday, August 20, 2017:

Immediately upon his termination as President Trump’s chief political strategist last week, Steve Bannon returned to his former position as executive chairman of Breitbart News. In fact, within hours of his return he chaired an “all-hands” meeting to plan the future.

Bannon said it was all part of a plan: “On August 7th, I talked to [Chief of Staff John] Kelly and to the President, and I told them that my resignation would be effective the following Monday, on the 14th. I’d always planned on spending one year. General Kelly has brought in a great new system, but I said it would be best [to leave]. Sessions Links Chicago’s Mayor to City’s Crime, Calls Him a Dictator

The decibel level in the war of words between Trump’s AG Jeff Sessions and Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel reached painful heights on Wednesday. At issue is illegal immigration, and harboring illegals or deporting them. The underlying issue is the conflict of power between the federal government and the states.

The Federalist considered the issue and concluded that immigration, legal or illegal, was a concern only of the states, and of no concern to the national government:

Sessions Lauds Miami-Dade, Bashes Chicago Over Sanctuary City Policies

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Thursday, August 17, 2017:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions took the opportunity during his visit to Miami (traffic circle shown) on Wednesday to praise the decision of Miami-Dade County officials to reverse the area’s three-year-old “sanctuary city” policy. He also used the time in front of a crowd of 150 law-enforcement officials to bash Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his city for its failure to do the same.

Chicago Immigration Lawsuit Fraught With Errors, Inconsistencies, Illogic

A closer look at the lawsuit that Chicago filed against Attorney General Jeff Sessions last week over his threat to withhold grant money reveals enough errors, inconsistencies, and just plain poor logic that might be enough for the judge to toss it, with prejudice.

The lawsuit that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel had threatened over Session’s imposition of new conditions for receiving Bryne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds — including alerting the federal government when an illegal alien has been arrested and is about to be released — claimed that the threat of lost funding was unconstitutional, violated states’ rights, and threatened the city’s long-standing Welcoming City ordinance. The Welcoming City ordinance includes language that

Chicago Mayor Emanuel Files Suit to Block Federal Withholding of Grant Funds

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Monday, August 7, 2017:

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (shown) announced over the weekend that he would be filing a motion to stop the federal government from withholding grant funds under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program. Municipalities such as Chicago receive this funding to help them fight crime. Lord knows, crime is rampant in Chicago. But federal funding, which Chicago has been receiving all along, does not necessarily mean less crime. It does mean, however, that the federal government, as the provider of the funding, may use the funding as leverage to get the recipients to do what the feds want them to do — in this case, upholding federal immigration laws.

After all, isn’t this simply a case of (to quote an old adage):

Food Stamp Dependency Dropping

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Monday, July 24, 2017:

In its report released last week the USDA reported that SNAP – the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the old food stamp program – is shrinking, a little. In 2016, 44 million Americans and immigrants (legal and illegal) took advantage of taxpayers’ largess, costing them $71 billion. In 2010, there were 47 million receiving SNAP benefits costing taxpayers closer to $80 billion.

The program, which began in 1969, has virtually exploded, from just 2.9 million beneficiaries that year (costing taxpayers a paltry $250 million) to a peak of 47.6 million in 2013, which cost taxpayers $79.9 billion.

Part of the shrinkage is due to

Supreme Court Grants Trump Partial Victory in Ongoing Travel ban Controversy

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Thursday, July 20, 2017:

U.S. Supreme Court building.

The terse two-paragraph Supreme Court order issued Wednesday was self-explanatory: President Donald Trump’s effort to ban immigrants from six countries was upheld, with modifications. As the first paragraph stated:

The Government’s motion seeking clarification of our order of June 26, 2017, is denied. The District Court order modifying the preliminary injunction with respect to refugees covered by a formal assurance is stayed pending resolution of the Government’s appeal to the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

President Trump’s first ban, issued in January, resulted in chaos at the nation’s airports until it was blocked by the courts. The administration reissued the ban in March but that one was also blocked by the courts. In June the Supreme Court overruled lower courts’ decisions and allowed Trump’s ban to proceed, adding the proviso that his ban wouldn’t apply to people who have “a credible claim of a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States.”

An Obama-appointed judge in Hawaii thought that the administration’s reading that that “bona fide relationship” only included spouses, children, parents, fiancés and fiancées was far too restrictive:
