More Fake News: NRA Bans Guns at Its Own Convention!

It all started with an Associated Press (AP) tweet: “NRA bans guns at President Trump, VP Pence speeches during it’s [sic] annual meeting in Dallas.” The Washington Post jumped on it, as if it were real news, offering a misleading headline to its story: “The NRA said guns will be banned during a Pence speech; Parkland students see hypocrisy.”

This likely reflected a tweet from one of the “heroes” of the Parkland, Florida, massacre, Cameron Kasky, who is credited with founding the anti-gun group March for Our Lives. Tweeted Kasky: “The NRA has evolved into such a hilarious parody of itself.”

Dick’s Sporting Goods Will Destroy All Its “Assault-style” Rifle Inventory

When Ed Stack, president of Dick’s Sporting Goods, announced in February (following the Parkland, Florida massacre) that his company would no longer be selling “semi-automatic” rifles in his stores, he stated:

We support and respect the Second Amendment, and we recognize and appreciate that the vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible, law-abiding citizens.

But we have to help solve the problem that’s in front of us. Gun violence is an epidemic that’s taking the lives of too many people, including the brightest hope for the future of America — our kids.

What he failed to mention at the time was that the decision affected only 35 stores (those in its Field & Stream division), because back in 2012 he pulled all semi-automatic rifles from the shelves of his signature stores — all 800 of them.

Second Amendment supporters, including The New American, saw this clearly as “posturing” — taking an opportunity to promote his anti-gun views on ABC News when he told the liberal network: “We’re taking these guns out of all our stores permanently.”

Adding to the obvious hypocrisy, Stack continues to allow his stores to sell semi-automatic handguns as well as the well-known and popular Ruger Mini-14, a semi-automatic rifle.

Pro-gun supporters noted that Stack was focusing on the wrong target.

A poll conducted by Zogby Analytics during the last week of February showed how the combination of hypocrisy and real-world facts are negating Hollywood’s anti-gun message. When 869 likely voters were asked by Zogby, “When Hollywood actors and actresses speak out about gun control, does that make you want to support or oppose our constitutional right to bear arms (the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution)?”, the response across every class, age group, and political party affiliation indicated that Hollywood’s anti-gun message is being increasingly rejected. Taken altogether, 56 percent of those polled said Hollywood’s anti-gun rants make them want either to “somewhat” support or “strongly support” the Second Amendment. Just 28 percent are reflecting the bias pitched by Hollywood, with 16 percent “strongly opposed” to the right guaranteed by the Second Amendment in the Constitution’s Bill of Rights, and 12 percent “somewhat opposed.”

But support for the Second Amendment was strongest among Millennials:

Two “Republicans” Divide Vote in Pennsylvania’s Special Election

The New York Times fairly chortled when it reported on Democrat Conor Lamb’s victory over Trump-endorsed Republican Rick Saccone in Tuesday’s special election in Pennsylvania. The liberal Times wrote:

Conor Lamb, a Democrat, pulled off a narrow but major upset by winning a special House election in the heart of Pennsylvania Trump country. Mr. Lamb won in the state’s 18th Congressional District, a reliably Republican seat in recent elections and an area that Donald J. Trump won by nearly 20 percentage points in 2016. The victory is an ominous sign for Republicans ahead of this year’s midterm elections.

What the Times failed to mention is that Conor Lamb won because he sounded more like a Republican than the Republican, taking pro-gun, pro-life, pro-tariffs, and — ready? — anti-Nancy Pelosi stands. Those stands are a warning to Democrats seeking to repeat Lamb’s victory: They will have to adopt much more conservative positions than usual to win in November.

Republican Representative Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania’s 3rd District said Lamb was “more like a Republican” in his positions. House Speaker Paul Ryan said the race was unique:

Pennsylvania’s Special Election is Bad News for Democrats

Despite claims by the mainstream media that the victory of the Democrat in Pennsylvania’s special election on Tuesday over the Trump-endorsed Republican sounded the death knell for Republicans in November, the exact opposite is true. The only way Democrats have any chance of turning the 25 seats they need in the House in their direction is for them to become Republicans. That’s the lesson from Pennsylvania.

It wasn’t so much a battle of Republican versus Democrat but a battle of Americanist A versus Americanist B. Americanist A, one Conor Lamb, looks like he was selected from central casting: handsome, articulate, and skilled in public discourse. Americanist B, Rick Saccone, didn’t measure up. Lamb’s campaign supporting the Second Amendment, Trump’s tariffs, the local coal industry, the right to life for the unborn left Saccone without any leverage. How does one debate someone who already agrees with you on the basics?

Political expediency likely forced President Trump to endorse the former presidential two-time loser for the Senate from Utah. But it was more than three days between Mitt Romney’s slick video announcement that he would run for Utah Senator Orrin Hatch’s seat and Trump’s decision to give Romney his endorsement. The president’s advisors no doubt reminded him that Romney is virtually guaranteed to win Hatch’s seat in November, with or without his endorsement, and that Trump nearly lost Utah in the presidential election in November 2016. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell weighed in on the matter as well, reminding Trump of the loss of Roy Moore in Alabama and how narrow the Republican majority is in the Senate, and urging him to support Romney.

Through new legislation, successful ballot measures or inflation adjustments built in to previous statutes, some 4.5 million people should see increases in their paychecks in the New Year. Ten of those states — Maine, Vermont, Washington, Michigan, New York, Rhode Island, California, Colorado, Arizona, and Hawaii — are seeing increases as the result of legislative or ballot measures. The other eight — Alaska, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio, and South Dakota — will see so-called “automatic” increases in their minimum wage laws in 2018.

Most new minimum wage legislation is phased-in through gradual increases, declaring loudly the hypocritical claim that such increases won’t affect employment. It’s like feeding nightshade to a victim in such small doses that he doesn’t even notice — until he’s dead.

Not content with losing its first eight games of the season (a franchise record low) or winning just seven out of its last 40 games, the San Francisco 49ers football team announced it is doubling down in its efforts to offend its fans even more grievously: On Thursday it announced that the team would be donating $500,000 to a gaggle of anti-gun groups working to ban “bump stocks,” gun suppressors, and so-called armor-piercing bullets. Nick Wagoner of ESPN delivered the news as follows: “The 49ers announced … that they are joining local and national law enforcement in signing a pledge for a ‘more understanding and safer America.’ The Niners have pledged $500,000 toward the campaign [the Pledge for a More Understanding and Safer America], which will advocate for legislation banning ‘bump stocks’ and other mechanisms that allow semi-automatic weapons to become automatic weapons, as well as silencers [suppressors] and armor-piercing bullets.” The coalition included left-wing, anti-gun unions, such as the San Jose Police Officers Association and the Los Angeles Police Protective League.

San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York is attempting to repair bridges that the NFL burned with police through allowing kneeling during the National Anthem — player protests that have been intended to bring attention to the claim that blacks are being systematically murdered by police (a claim that is untrue, as studies show that compared to the percentage of violent crimes they commit, whites are more likely to be killed by police than blacks, who commit approximately seven to 10 times more violent crimes than whites, though they make up about 13 percent of the population). This donation is seen as a way to curry favor with the police in a manner that will not be attacked by black radicals. The group attempted to explain away its real purpose with astonishing hypocrisy:

Michael Brown, one of the 150 signers of the Nashville Statement released last week, expressed surprise at all the attacks the statement was getting from those whom he supposed would be expected to support it:

If a group of astronomers issued a major document stating that the earth revolves around the sun and the moon revolves around the earth, it would be greeted with a shrug of the shoulders. Who didn’t know that?

Why, then, has [the Nashville Statement signed] by Christian leaders affirming the basics of Biblical sexuality been greeted with such protest from other professing Christian leaders?

It is because these other “Christian” leaders have rejected the authority of the Word of God.

When the Chicago Police Department (CPD) reported back in September that 22-year-old Simone Mousheh had been arrested and charged with four felonies for violating gun laws, it noted that Simone is not alone in her crimes: “The Firearms Investigations Team say she is not an uncommon example of a female with a valid FOID [Firearm Owners Identification] who sells guns for profit.”

But, said the announcement, although she faces four felonies, she “will be eligible for a low bond based on her background. History has shown that these cases usually result in a plea of guilty in exchange for felony probation.”

The first sign of trouble at the Department of Justice occurred at about 9 am on Monday when acting Attorney General Sally Yates ordered her staff not to defend Trump’s immigration order. In an email to her staff, Yates opined:

At present, I am not convinced that the defense of the executive order is consistent with these responsibilities of the Department of Justice, nor am I convinced that the executive order is lawful.

She also took exception to the Trump administration’s claim that her own department’s Office of Legal Counsel had adequately cleared the order beforehand, ruling that his order was “lawful on its face”:

[That ruling] does not address whether any policy choice embodied in an executive order is wise or just….

I am responsible for ensuring that the positions we take in court remain consistent with this institution’s solemn obligation to always seek justice and stand for what is right.

On Monday retired Marine General James Cartwright (left) agreed to plead guilty to charges that he lied to the FBI during its investigation into leaks over the clandestine Stuxnet operation back in 2013. Stuxnet was a computer virus, or worm, that was designed to harm Iran’s ability to produce weapons-grade material for its nuclear program. (On that same day, the FBI released documents charging that the Department of Justice offered the FBI a “deal” to reclassify some of Hillary Clinton’s e-mails retroactively.)

The New York Times claimed on Sunday that the front page of Trump’s state income tax returns filed in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut in 1995 prove that the man came close to being a tax cheat:

Donald J. Trump declared a $916 million loss on his 1995 income tax returns, a tax deduction so substantial it could have allowed him to legally avoid paying any federal income taxes for up to 18 years.

The mainstream media trumpeted the storyline incessantly without mentioning simple truths buried in the Times’ report: The hit piece was based on just three pages of the voluminous tax returns Trump filed in that year;
