Have nothing to do with the [evil] things that people do, things that belong to the darkness. Instead, bring them out to the light... [For] when all things are brought out into the light, then their true nature is clearly revealed...

Override of Obama Veto Likely to Harm American Security Interests

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Friday, September 30, 2016:

Senator Ted Cruz could hardly contain himself as he celebrated the Senate’s first successful override of an Obama veto on Wednesday:

I applaud my colleagues for joining together and with the American people to stand against President Obama’s attempt to deprive terror victims from receiving full recourse under the law. Our nation has a duty to ensure that American victims of terrorism, first and foremost the 9/11 families, are able to receive justice.

Congress, by passing JASTA, will do just that and will continue to protect our brave men and women in uniform who defend our freedoms and way of life across the globe. I encourage my colleagues in the House to follow the Senate in overriding the president’s veto and enact JASTA into law.

The House followed shortly thereafter, overriding Obama’s veto 349-77.

JASTA – the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act – has been languishing ever since it was introduced by Senators Chuck Schumer and John Cornyn in 2009 in response to pressure from families of victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The bill got traction as the election drew nearer and

As expected, both leading candidates in the Republican and Democratic primaries in New York on Tuesday extended their leads over their rivals. Hillary Clinton took 135 delegates to Sanders’ 104, all but cementing into place her nomination at the Democrat convention in July. Donald Trump extended his lead over his nearest rival, Ted Cruz, by running the board, taking 89 delegates to none for Cruz.

What was unexpected was the

Morton Blackwell Reveals How GOP Insiders Could Manipulate the Convention Rules – Again

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Friday, March 18, 2016:

Morton Blackwell caught the fever at a very young age, attending the Republican National Convention in 1964 as Barry Goldwater’s youngest elected delegate. Active in Republican politics ever since, Blackwell is the Virginia Republican National Committeeman and a member of the RNC’s Standing Committee on Rules.

He told the story of how he tried to change the rule that sank Ron Paul’s campaign back in 2012 – Rule 40b – without success:

Mainstream Media Is Writing Off Jeb Bush

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Friday, February 19, 2016:

Byron York, chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, attended a town hall meeting in Columbia, South Carolina, on Wednesday featuring Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush. According to York, the meeting was a “downer,” with family members ranging from older brother George W. Bush, his mother Barbara Bush, his sister,  another brother, along with Jeb’s wife and children, all behaving as though they were attending a wake and not a celebration.

When quizzed about it, Bush responded, sarcastically:

Looking Behind the Latest Jobs Report Numbers

JOB Toulouse

On the surface, Friday’s jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) looked pretty good, and the response from establishment economists was predictable: the economy continues to grow, Obama’s policies are working, just give them time, and so forth.

For the record, BLS reported that “total non-farm payroll employment increased by 171,000 in October, and the unemployment rate was essentially unchanged [from September] at 7.9 percent.” It disclaimed any impact that Hurricane Sandy had on these numbers as the data upon which their report was based had been collected before the storm.

Diane Swonk, an economist at Mesirow Financial told CNBC: “The consumer’s feeling a little bit better…[employers] are not hiring out like crazy, but certainly you’ve got to welcome these kinds of numbers.” And Arne Kelleberg, professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina, claimed the report proved that “the fundamentals are strong. I do see the cyclical aspects of the unemployment situation being

Government Grows Faster Under Republicans

John C. Goodman – Which Party is the Party of Big Government?

For every net new job created, nearly four Americans gave up looking for work entirely. This is more of the same for middle class families who are suffering through the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression. After 43 straight months of unemployment above 8 percent, it is clear that President Obama just hasn’t lived up to his promises and his policies haven’t worked. We aren’t better off than they were four years ago.

Goodman reminds us of this inevitable fact: Republicans grow government faster than Democrats. It’s good to keep this in mind as we observe the electoral “silly season” where facts that are inconvenient are either twisted or ignored. What’s pushing the national government into bankruptcy is the growth of Social Security (installed under a Democrat), Medicare and Medicaid (enacted under a Democrat) and unemployment insurance (under a Democrat administration in 1932). Goodman notes that entitlement (i.e., welfare) spending reached $2.2 trillion in 2010. That’s 100% of tax revenues! But who’s to blame? The Democrats, who enacted them? Or the Republicans, who expanded them?  Says Goodman:

So who is to blame for this state of affairs? Lyndon Johnson, of course, gave us Medicare, Medicaid and the rest of the Great Society. But when Johnson left office, these programs were relatively small. The main expansion came under Republican presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Not only that, the expansions were largely the result of executive orders!

And then to emphasize his point, Goodman quotes Nicholas Eberstadt who wrote in The Wall Street Journal:

From a purely statistical standpoint, the growth of entitlement spending over the past half-century has been distinctly greater under Republican administrations than Democratic ones. Between 1960 and 2010, the growth of entitlement spending was exponential, but in any given year, it was on the whole roughly 8% higher if the president happened to be a Republican rather than a Democrat.

This is good to keep in mind as the politicians – especially Republicans – continue to make promises they have no intention of keeping.

Bohemian Grove: Where the Elite Meet to Eat (and Conspire)

Bohemian Grove

Debra Saunders complained that, because she is a woman, she wasn’t invited to the upcoming Bohemian Club meeting which begins this Thursday at the Bohemian Grove retreat center an hour’s drive north of San Francisco. Even if she were a man, she most likely still wouldn’t be invited as she is not a member of the “elite.”

Founded just after the Civil War by Henry “Harry” Edwards as a private camp where bohemians—artists and writers—could go to relax and recuperate from the rigors of the work-a-day world, over time the club’s membership evolved to include the rich and powerful, which now numbers over 2,400.

Evidence is mounting that Obama will have another opportunity to appoint a justice to the Supreme Court when Justice Stevens retires next summer.

Justice John Paul Stevens, age 89, raised some eyebrows when he hired just one law clerk to his staff for the current term. Full-time Justices can hire as many as six clerks, and retired Justices usually hire two.

Captains of the Economy: The ‘Good Ol’ Boy’ Network is Alive and Well

ABC News Now

Image via Wikipedia

In its attempt to glorify “the 10 who shaped the U.S. economy the most since 2000,” ABC News did a great favor for those interested in the interconnections among the “elite” who are impacting the current world economic and political scene.

Naturally, much was left unsaid about these “captains,” especially regarding their connections to the elite currently in charge. In order, then, here is a brief look at each of these “10 who shaped the U. S. economy”:
