Chicago Crime Wave: More People Killed on Christmas Than Past Three Christmases Combined

A total of 61 people were shot in Chicago over the Christmas holiday weekend, with 11 of them dying from their wounds. Seven were murdered on Christmas Day alone, more than the last three Christmases combined.

This brings the grisly total to more than 4,252 people shot so far this year in Chicago, 770 of them fatally. Last year by comparison there were 2,989 people shot with 492 of them succumbing to their wounds. That’s an astonishing 56 percent increase in homicides in one year — and the year is not quite over yet.

Denver’s City Council expanded and codified its existing policies concerning illegal aliens being held in prison for crimes they have committed by a vote of 10-0 on Monday night. City employees are now banned from asking suspects about their immigration status or allowing ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) officials access to their jails to interview suspects they have flagged for retention unless that have a federal arrest warrant.

Said Councilman Paul Lopez: “We’re not going to let anyone [enlist local police] to do their dirty work … not even a sitting U.S. president, not even a rogue agency. If [that rogue agency, ICE, has] any business with us whatsoever … show us a warrant.”

The bill, entitled the Public Safety Enforcement Act, was passed in response to a request from Republican state Representative Dave Williams from Colorado Springs to the Justice Department to investigate the immigration policies being followed in Denver.

CDC Buried Data Supporting Defensive Use of Firearms

Gary Kleck, a criminologist now retired from Florida State University, was likely astonished to learn that his controversial study, The National Self-Defense Survey, was accurate after all. He and FSU fellow professor Marc Gertz concluded, based on their carefully-crafted surveys conducted in 1993, that there were more than 2.2 million defensive gun uses (DGU) each year in the United States. The results were presented in 1994, published in 1995, and have been incessantly attacked by the anti-gun movement ever since. His conclusions didn’t fit the anti-gun narrative that guns are used in crimes far more than in self-defense and therefore private ownership must be abolished.

Kleck just learned that almost immediately after the publication of his study, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a federal agency that receives more than $11 billion of taxpayer money every year, conducted its own study of the matter. It conducted three separate studies, in fact, and each of them came to the same conclusion as Kleck and Gertz: indeed, about 2.5 million Americans use guns to defend themselves or their families every year.

But the CDC studies were never published.

It would have infuriated the powers-that-be in the Clinton administration, and so the results were buried.

Joe Thoele, an Effingham County, Illinois board member, was tired of his state’s continued assault on the Second Amendment and decided to do something about it. On Monday he persuaded seven of the other eight board members to declare his county a “sanctuary” county, ordering county employees not to enforce any new infringements coming from Springfield, the state’s capitol. Said Thoele, “I would just like to send a statement to Springfield that I don’t want them to be infringing on our Second Amendment rights as legal gun owners.” After all, echoed Effingham state’s attorney Bryan Kibler, “If you can be a sanctuary county for undocumented immigrants, why can’t you be one for firearms?”

The board meeting was attended by a near-record number of Effingham County’s 34,000 residents, according to local news sources. The Fox News affiliate reported that the resolution was motivated by a similar resolution passed by Iroquois County, Illinois, in March, “opposing the passage of … any bill where the 100th Illinois General Assembly desires to restrict the individual right of U.S. citizens as protected by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution.” That resolution resolved

Sinclair Lewis’s It Can’t Happen Here has recently been pounced upon by liberal pundits as a novel that remains relevant today with the election of President Donald Trump. Said left-liberal Salon magazine in its review of the 1935 novel, this is “the novel that foreshadowed Donald Trump’s authoritarian appeal.”

What this author intends is to draw a parallel between the inflation and destruction of the German currency in the early 1920s that led to the rise of Hitler and the slow, steady inflation of the American currency that could lead to the same end: a totalitarian police state here.

Starvation, Suicides Increasing Under Venezuela’s Hyperinflation

When Venezuela’s legitimate but outlawed National Assembly reported on the country’s runaway inflation numbers last week, the statistics were so astronomical that few could relate to them. Prices increased by 67 percent in March, 453 percent in the first quarter, and 8,878 percent over the last year.

Marxist Nicolás Maduro’s socialist government stopped reporting on those price increases two years ago, and he has sharply criticized any efforts by the National Assembly or websites such as Dolartoday.com since then to tell the truth. What if “Theoretical” Becomes “Actual” in Deerfield, Illinois?

Deerfield, Illinois is a pleasant little town about 25 miles north of Chicago, a few miles west of Lake Michigan and just off Interstate 94. Temperatures are pleasant, registering average highs of 85 in the summer and in the low 20s in the winter. Its population hasn’t changed much in the last ten years, as the town and environs have gained and lost businesses over those years. It’s currently home to Walgreens Boots, Baxter Healthcare, Consumers Digest, and Caterpillar. It used to be headquarters of the Sara Lee Corporation but that closed down in 1990 and the company sold its land to developers.

There are about 20,000 people living there, in an estimated 6,420 households (which datum will be important later on in this article). The local government consists of a mayor and a board of trustees. It considers itself a village, and is represented in the House of Representatives by Democrat Brad Schneider, whose Freedom Index is a treasonous 16 out of 100.

That should explain why the mayor, Harriet Rosenthal, and the board of trustees decided it would do its bit in fighting violent crime and mass shootings: inflict pain on its law-abiding citizens through one of the most draconian and tyrannical pieces of anti-gun legislation to come down the pike in some time. High-school Students Stage Walkout to Support the Second Amendment

The completely unplanned, unstaged, unfunded, and spontaneous gathering of 75 students outside Rockledge High School in Brevard County, Florida, last Friday morning was almost completely ignored by the mainstream media. Organized by Chloe Deaton, a sophomore, and Anna Delaney, a junior, the event lasted 20 minutes, just long enough to make their point: Other students in the same high school and around the country who urged more infringements on the people’s right to keep and bear arms didn’t speak for them.

After playing the national anthem (no one kneeled) and “God Bless America” on loudspeakers set up on the school’s track, Delaney told her classmates, “We were built on certain rights and that was one of the original rights, that we should have the right to bear arms.” She can be forgiven for failing to note that the right to self-defense and, thereby, the access to tools useful for self-defense are natural rights and pre-date the Constitution.

She made up for her misstatement by quoting President Ronald Reagan, who got it right:

McCabe Got Caught Lying

Justice is the glue that keeps society together. Ignore justice, or let crime go unpunished, and civil society will unwind. Marcus Tullius Cicero said it well:

For there is but one essential justice which cements society, and one law which establishes this justice. This law is right reason, which is the true rule of all commandments and prohibitions. Whoever neglects this law, whether written or unwritten, is necessarily unjust and wicked.

It took Attorney General Jeff Sessions a while, but he finally did the right thing. As the evidence against Andrew McCabe continued to mount, he ultimately had no choice but to fire the man. In his statement, Sessions didn’t beat around the bush:

After an extensive and fair investigation and according to Department of Justice procedure, the Department’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) provided its report on allegations of misconduct by Andrew McCabe to the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).

The FBI’s OPR then reviewed the report and underlying documents and issued a disciplinary proposal recommending the dismissal of Mr. McCabe. Both the OIG and FBI OPR reports concluded that Mr. McCabe had made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked candor — including under oath — on multiple occasions. (Emphasis added)

The FBI expects every employee to adhere to the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and accountability. As the OPR proposal stated, “all FBI employees know that lacking candor under oath results in dismissal and that our integrity is our brand.”

Pursuant to Department Order 1202, and based on the report of the Inspector General, the findings of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility, and the recommendation of the Department’s senior career official, I have terminated the employment of Andrew McCabe effective immediately.

Translation: Those various investigations into McCabe’s actions and statements that have been ongoing for months finally concluded that he lied. That was why he was fired.

He was an Obama holdover. He was persuaded that Hillary would win the presidency and all those investigations the FBI was conducting into her Clinton Foundation pay-to-play accusations, her 33,000 emails (that suddenly went missing), her role in Benghazi, etc., were all going to disappear down the memory hole. When she didn’t, it’s clear that McCabe had another set of problems. He had to distract the FBI away from them and redirect them into investigating Trump instead.

He left a trail of criminal behavior that raised eyebrows, but nothing substantial enough to force Sessions to toss him out the door. There was his failure to recuse himself during the Clinton email investigation following the disclosure that his wife had received $700,000 from a Clinton friend to help fund her election campaign in Virginia. McCabe said he followed the rules, but the odor of his violation of the Hatch Act (members of the executive branch cannot participate in election campaigns) was clear and distinct.

And then there was the indiscreet release of information to journalists from the Wall Street Journal about the ongoing Clinton Foundation investigation. He violated another rule, but nothing serious enough to put the man away.

And then came the Nunes Memo. The four-page memo, issued by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, suggested that McCabe had used the Steele dossier to persuade a FISA court judge to allow the FBI to spy on one of Trump’s campaign advisors, Carter Page.

When the Steele dossier was found to be full of lies, McCabe was done. Fox News’ Tucker Carlson helped things along:

The Steele dossier is absurd. The closer you read it, the more absurd it is. Take 10 minutes to do so yourself. It’s online. And as you read it, ask yourself: who would believe something like this? ….

And yet, keep in mind and never forget, this is the document the FBI [and McCabe] used to justify spying on American citizens.

McCabe lied. He got fired. He should have gotten fired for lying. He should never have been allowed to keep his job in the first place.

But justice is being served, even if a little late. Cicero was right: “Whoever neglects this law, whether written or unwritten, is necessarily unjust and wicked.”

A poll conducted by Zogby Analytics during the last week of February showed how the combination of hypocrisy and real-world facts are negating Hollywood’s anti-gun message. When 869 likely voters were asked by Zogby, “When Hollywood actors and actresses speak out about gun control, does that make you want to support or oppose our constitutional right to bear arms (the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution)?”, the response across every class, age group, and political party affiliation indicated that Hollywood’s anti-gun message is being increasingly rejected. Taken altogether, 56 percent of those polled said Hollywood’s anti-gun rants make them want either to “somewhat” support or “strongly support” the Second Amendment. Just 28 percent are reflecting the bias pitched by Hollywood, with 16 percent “strongly opposed” to the right guaranteed by the Second Amendment in the Constitution’s Bill of Rights, and 12 percent “somewhat opposed.”

But support for the Second Amendment was strongest among Millennials:

Red Flag Warning: States Confiscating Guns by Ignoring Fourth Amendment

An assortment of new restrictions on the Second Amendment in Florida also launched an attack on the Fourth Amendment, as well. As The New American noted last week, Florida’s new “red flag” law abrogates the Fourth Amendment on the way to violating the Second Amendment:

Simply put, someone who thinks someone else might be a danger to himself or others can present his arguments to a judge who then, based upon those arguments, is free to decide whether the state (police armed with guns and badges) can forcibly remove privately and legally owned firearms from that person’s possession. The “red flag” provisions do not allow the person charged to defend himself or even to know who his accuser might be. Further, he must prove his innocence in order to get his confiscated firearms returned to him. He is “guilty until he proves himself innocent.”

All in violation of the Fourth Amendment, which states: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

Jonas Oransky, deputy director of Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety, was delighted, calling the adoption of such laws a “new frontier” in the long war against private gun ownership in America:

Movie buffs will remember the 2002 science fiction film Minority Report based on a short story written by Philip Dick. Set in 2054 in Washington, D.C., a division of the local police department called PreCrime would arrest individuals based on crimes that they were going to commit. The precriminals were targeted by three psychics called “precogs.”

That “PreCrime” unit is now called the Crisis Response Squad, is part of the Seattle Police Department, and is now arresting precriminals based on testimonies from family members, friends, former wives or husbands, and even former roommates. This isn’t 2054, but 2018.

In 1970, Florida’s legislature officially adopted “The Sunshine State” as the state’s nickname. It was designed for the tourists: beaches, warm weather in the winter, and so forth.

About the same time, a 4’10” grandmother teamed up with the National Rifle Association (NRA) and, over time, successfully added another nickname to the state: “The Gunshine State.” When the Gun Control Act was passed in 1968, Marion Hammer decided to do what she could to overturn it. She started in Florida. She was the first female president of the NRA, and the rest, as they say, is history. In 1987, she almost single-handedly persuaded the state’s legislature to pass the first concealed carry law in the nation. In 2005, she was inducted into Florida’s Women’s Hall of Fame.

That was then. This is now.

No Weapons Violations in First Six Months of Campus Carry at KU Lawrence

In a report that the national media didn’t deem newsworthy, the Office of Public Safety at the Lawrence campus of the University of Kansas (KU) said last week that during the first six months that students were allowed to carry concealed on campus, there were no incidents — zero criminal weapons violations — to report. But the office did report that overall crime, mostly thefts, dropped by 13 percent.

The report said nothing about the freedom granted students starting last July to carry concealed on campus if they so desired, but instead stated that the drop in crime and the utter lack of weapons violations were likely due to “the use of security technology on campus, such as cameras … and more police and security officers [that] were added to the Public Safety Office in 2017.”

Undoubtedly, if there had been one weapons violation — just one — it would have made headline news in every liberal media outlet in the country. But in its absence, the media has remained silent.

When Firearms are Present, Shooters are Absent

John Lott, in his book, The War on Guns, gave his readers an astonishing statistic:

Since 2011, there have been only three mass public shootings in areas where concealed carry was allowed … these cases are very rare. From 1950-2010, not a single mass shooting occurred in an area where general civilians are allowed to carry guns.

Over the entire period from 1950 through February 2016, just over 1 percent of mass public shootings occurred in such places.

Put another way, according to Lott more than 98 percent of the time shooters choose places where their intended victims aren’t allowed to defend themselves with firearms!

Those shooters may be certifiably insane, but they aren’t stupid. Take, for example, Khalil Abu-Rayyan, an ISIS supporter who was planning an attack on one of the biggest churches in Detroit. According to Lott, Rayyan explained his choice of target this way:

Is Common Sense Finally Returning to the Nation’s School Boards?

Thomas Edison said “The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are: hard work, stick-to-itiveness, and common sense.” That may explain why so few accomplish anything worthwhile, because “Common Sense, Isn’t!”

Take the average school board. For years, nearly all of them have bought the argument that if you post enough “gun free” zones around the schools, shooters will take heed and go elsewhere. A parody of this nonsense can still be found on YouTube (see Sources below).

What those “gun free” zones mean to murderous thugs is “safe shooters’ hunting preserves!” John Lott, founder of the Crime Prevention Research Center, has proven statistically that 98 percent of all “gun free” zones have been the target of all mass shootings.

Anti-gun Democrats Introduce Clinton-style Assault Weapons Ban

House Representative David Cicilline (D-R.I.) introduced a bill last week similar to the Clinton-era Federal Assault Weapons Ban but with even greater restrictions. So far 163 of the 193 House Democrats have signed on in support of the bill. Cicilline’s rant against semi-automatic rifles is familiar:

Assault weapons were made for one purpose. They are designed to kill as many people as possible in a short period of time. They do not belong in our communities.

I am proud to introduce the Assault Weapons Ban with the support of leaders in law enforcement. It’s on all of us to end this carnage.

Of course, if semi-automatic firearms were actually able to commit crimes without human assistance, then the ban would make sense. Who would want self-firing weapons walking around the neighborhood unrestricted? But that appears not to matter to Cicilline — who sports a F-minus rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA) and a Freedom Index (FI) rating of 26 percent from The New American , and who was a founding member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns while he was the mayor of Providence.

Such illogic also appeared in the words of Rep. Ted Deutch (D-Fla.), representing several counties including Broward where the Valentine’s Day massacre took place) — with an FI of just 17 percent — as he announced he was supporting Cicilline’s bill:

Pilots Are Armed, Why Not Teachers?

Chad Robichaux, a former special agent with the U.S. Federal Air Marshall Service, has been here before. Objections to arming pilots following the Islamic terror attacks on September 11, 2001 were the same as those being raised against arming teachers. Said Robichaux on Breitbart News Tonight last Thursday: “Well, you trust them [pilots] flying your airplane. So now people are saying, ‘We can’t trust teachers with firearms.’ We trust them with our children!”

Robichaux worked with the Federal Air Marshall Service in developing and implementing the pilot training program launched following the 9/11 attacks and said that the present hostility toward arming teachers is the same that was voiced against the arming of pilots.
