Have nothing to do with the [evil] things that people do, things that belong to the darkness. Instead, bring them out to the light... [For] when all things are brought out into the light, then their true nature is clearly revealed...

Call Them “Suppressors,” Please, Not “Silencers”: Bill to End Their Restrictions Proposed

The bill in the U.S. House to end the excessive restrictions on gun suppressors is called “The Hearing Protection Act,” but is labelled a “fakery” by its detractors. Introduced last Monday by Representatives Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) and John Carter (R-Texas), Duncan called H.R. 3799 a health issue:

National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Bill in 115th Congress

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Thursday, January 5, 2017:

House member Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) introduced a bill in the 115th Congress on Wednesday, the “Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017.” Hudson, a member of President-elect Donald Trump’s Second Amendment Coalition, released this statement simultaneously:

Within hours of the meeting between President-elect Donald Trump and retired Army General David Petraeus on Monday, November 28, Gun Owners of America sent an email alert to its more than 1.5 million members:

Anti-gun activist David Petraeus is under consideration for the position of Secretary of State in the Trump administration…

He hates guns so much that he teamed up with anti-gun leader Mark Kelly and his wife, Gabrielle Giffords, to co-found the Veterans Coalition for Common Sense, an anti-gun organization devoted to “do[ing] more to prevent gun tragedies” by “urging lawmakers to toughen gun laws.”

As Secretary of State, Petraeus would be in a position to

Trump Amplifies His Second Amendment Position

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Sunday, November 13, 2016:

On Friday Donald Trump posted an expanded version of his position on the Second Amendment, including his position on concealed carry permits. Earlier his vision statement “Constitution and Second Amendment” said simply that he would “defend the rights of law-abiding gun owners [including the] national right to carry [which] should be legal in all 50 states.” His expanded vision statement added this:

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly Calls for All Gun Crimes to Be Federal Crimes

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Thursday, November 3, 2016:

English: Bill O'Reilly at a Hudson Union Socie...

On Wednesday evening Bill O’Reilly, host of The O’Reilly Factor, offered his solution to gun violence: make all gun crimes federal crimes to be enforced at the federal level. “That way,” he claimed, “American law enforcement everywhere can not only take guns off the streets but people who illegally carry them and/or use them to commit crimes … and the upshot, pardon the pun, is that legal gun owners would be left alone.”

He expanded on this trashing of precious gun rights by federal police:

The Tax Foundation’s Big Surprise: Trump’s Tax Plan is Better Than Hillary’s!

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Friday, October 21, 2016:

English: The standard Laffer Curve

The standard Laffer Curve

The Tax Foundation, founded nearly 80 years ago, considers itself non-partisan, guided by what it calls “the principles of sound tax policy, simplicity, transparency, neutrality, stability, no retroactivity, broad [tax] bases and low [tax] rates.” It has steadfastly opposed tax increases of any kind: income, corporate, or excise. Especially annoying are tax “preferences” (i.e., subsidies) for the housing industry and tax credits for certain constituencies (which the Foundation calls “picking winners and losers”).

So it’s no surprise that in its study of Trump’s and Clinton’s so-called “tax plans” the Foundation concluded that Trump’s was vastly superior to Hillary’s:

Runaway Federal Agency Reined in, a Little

On Tuesday the U.S. Court of Appeals ruled against the unconstitutional structure of one of the most pernicious, invasive, and out-of-control federal agencies: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

The court’s opinion was penned by Judge Brett Kavanaugh, a George Bush appointee. Sounding like a conservative constitutional scholar teaching at the Freedom Project Academy sponsored by The John Birch Society, he got off to a great start:

Gun Background Check Denials Not Prosecuted, Appeals Not Processed

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Monday, October 10, 2016:

Brady Campaign

The audit released last month of how well the FBI is handling background check denials by the Inspector General’s Office in the Justice Department was designed to “focus on how the DOJ handles” denials. What it revealed was unsettling: “We found that the number of NICS [National Instant Criminal Background Check System] denial prosecutions has dropped substantially since 2002, when 166 subjects were accepted for consideration of prosecution. Between 2008 and 2015 … the USAO [United States Attorney’s Office] accepted for consideration of prosecution 254 subjects … less than 32 subjects per year.”

In other words, since 2008, while background checks have been soaring, the number of those being prosecuted for failing the check has dropped by 80 percent!

How can that be?

Anti-gun Politicians Falling Further Behind, Thanks to the Internet

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Wednesday, August 17, 2016:

Steve Israel

Anti-freedom Congressman Steve Israel

New York’s Democratic House Representative Steve Israel (left) could be the poster child of the typical anti-gun politician. He has little respect for his oath of office, scoring an abysmal 18 out of 100 on the John Birch Society’s Freedom Index. That index uniquely measures how pols vote on issues that are clearly constitutional, or not. Israel gets it right (no pun intended) just once out of every six votes.

The anti-gun establishment loves him. He scores 100% with both the

What Would the Apostle Paul say About the Minimum Wage?

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Friday, August 5, 2016:

One can surmise from his instructions to believers in the church in Thessalonica: “When we were with you, we gave you this rule: Whoever will not work should not be allowed to eat.” What’s less clear is: what if government mandates keep one from working, or keep employers from hiring those willing to work?

St. Paul assumed that people had the freedom to contract out their labor, to sell the one primary thing they possessed: their time and effort in exchange for money. He also assumed that employers, given the opportunity, were free to hire someone who could add value to their businesses.

Minimum wage laws abrogate that essential freedom, with all manner of negative results. One,

More Proof: Raising the Minimum Wage Increases Unemployment

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Thursday, August 4, 2016:

If more proof were needed that raising the minimum wage would increase unemployment among lesser-skilled workers, the Heritage Foundation’s latest study provides it.

For one thing, the push for a national minimum wage of $15 an hour would actually cost employers $18.61 an hour, thanks to payroll taxes, unemployment insurance and ObamaCare taxes. The proposed increase, if passed into law, would, according to Heritage, impact one-third of all American workers, and hurt the most those working in lower-cost states.

The math is simple, and deadly.

Undercover Video Confirms Hillary’s Strategy to Ban All Firearms

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Tuesday, July 26, 2016:

Rules for Radicals

The first 57 seconds of James O’Keefe’s latest undercover video interview, of a Clinton delegate from California, confirms what many have long suspected: Hillary Clinton’s real goal of complete and total confiscation of all firearms from every American citizen is being hidden behind benign and persuasive phrases such as “common sense gun control” and “protect our families,” etc.

It also reveals what happens when the “useful idiot” in the video learns that she has been exposed for what she is: a mouthpiece for the movement to disarm America and ultimately turn it into a totalitarian state.

Most importantly it reveals

Something is Wrong When A “Fine Arts” Major Has to Defend Social Security

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Monday, June 6, 2016:

Following President Obama’s statement last Wednesday that Social Security benefits ought to be expanded and made more “generous,” someone at the Washington Post thought it would be a good idea to tout the wonders of that welfare state program. Rather than pick someone with some credentials as an economist, even a liberal one, the Post instead picked Jared Bernstein (above) to do the honors. Which he did:

Missouri Lawmakers Pass “Stand Your Ground,” No-permit Concealed Carry

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Tuesday, May 17, 2016:

Image of the Bill of Rights (United States Constitution) cropped to show just the Second Amendment.

Missouri lawmakers passed a bill expanding Second Amendment-protected self-defense rights just as the legislative session was coming to a close last Friday night. The bill is now on Governor Jay Nixon’s desk awaiting his signature.

Once it becomes law, it will allow Missourians to carry concealed, if they care to, without first being forced to apply for permission to do so. The new law also enacts a “stand-your-ground” right allowing citizens to defend themselves against attack in any place where they have a right to be. This would make Missouri the 31st state in the union where those laws (or court precedents) already exist, and the first since 2011 to enact such a law.

The bill passed both state houses with more than enough votes to override a veto if Nixon decides to turn it down.

Missouri is just one more example of pro-Second Amendment victories being enjoyed by citizens across the land as momentum continues to build for such expansions.

Beginning with a concealed-carry law in 2004,

A Closer Look at the Man Behind California’s Anti-gun Ballot Initiative

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Wednesday, May 4, 2016:

Lieutenant Governor of California Gavin Newsom

Lieutenant Governor of California Gavin Newsom

It’s often helpful to look into the background of a politician promoting a ballot issue on the chance that that look might reveal a hidden agenda. So it appears with California’s Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom. Last year he announced that he was creating a petition for some anti-gun legislation that, if successful, would appear on this year’s November ballot. Last week he announced that he had secured 600,000 signatures for his petition, more than enough for it to be on the ballot.

The agenda is right in line with the anti-gun mentality expressed by

What Happens After Venezuela Destroys its Currency?

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Friday, April 29, 2016:

English: THE KREMLIN, MOSCOW. At a joint press...

Hugo Chavez and Vladimir Putin

Venezuela is unable to pay its currency printers. Those printers have been flying in planeloads of currency in the middle of the night, landing at airports where it is offloaded onto trucks to be dispersed to banks throughout the country. In other words, Venezuela doesn’t have the money to pay for its money.

The destruction of the currency, the bolivar fuerte (“strong bolivar”), has been documented at The New American and elsewhere. When oil prices dropped, so did revenues to fund the various socialist welfare schemes put in place by the communist Hugo Chávez and continued by his protégé, Nicolás Maduro, at Chavez’s passing in March 2013. Instead of reining in those unaffordable programs, socialist economists instead decided to print their way out of the crisis.

The results were predictable, and catastrophic.

Nothing is Likely to Change in Brazil

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Wednesday, April 20, 2016:

One of Warren Buffett’s favorite expressions is “when the tide goes out, everyone will see who’s been swimming naked.”  In Brazil the tide went out at the start of the Great Recession and now the whole world can see who was swimming naked.

When President Lula was elected in 2002 the commodity boom was underway, and Brazil was enjoying the ride. Its major exports are soybeans, sugar, and iron ore, and under Lula Brazil’s GDP was running 10 percent a year. Lula implemented major expansions of the welfare state, including putting in place such generous pension plans that state workers could retire at age 54 for men and at age 52 for women at 90 percent of their final pay. The average Brazilian’s household income rose, and statists worldwide pointed to Brazil’s success story, naming it as one of the BRIC countries that would soon overtake the developed nations of the world, and doing it while expanding government spending.

But when Dilma Rousseff took over in 2011 the Great Recession was revealing the true nature of spending far beyond the ability of the economy to sustain it. In 2014 the government’s finances were in such dreadful shape that

Brazil’s Lower House Votes to Impeach President Rousseff; Little Likely to Change

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Tuesday, April 19, 2016:

Shouts of “Anybody but Dilma” resonated in Brazil’s lower house on Sunday as that body voted 367-137 to impeach President Dilma Rousseff.  After the dust settles, that is very likely what they are going to get: a change in name only. The corruption and anti-capitalist policies will remain.

Rousseff promised to fight impeachment every step of the way:

Obama’s Gun-control Hypocrisy Called Out by Alabama Senator

On March 30, President Obama commuted the prison sentences of 62 criminals, 12 of whom were behind bars for gun-related drug crimes. This was just too much for Alabama’s senior Senator Richard Shelby (R), so the next day Shelby sent a stinging letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch. He asked her about the president’s hypocrisy and demanded answers to questions that he posed to her during a committee hearing back in January. Wrote Shelby:

The PC Crowd, Economic Ignorance, and the Minimum Wage
