Have nothing to do with the [evil] things that people do, things that belong to the darkness. Instead, bring them out to the light... [For] when all things are brought out into the light, then their true nature is clearly revealed...

Doug Casey, who heads up Casey Research (which sells investment advice through various subscription services) and who was a classmate of Bill Clinton’s while they were attending Georgetown University in the late 1960s, didn’t drink the establishment Kool-Aid while he was there. Instead he joined the ranks of libertarians before that became a household word. He has a worldview that is often instructive. That’s the case here.

His interview on America’s foreign policy concentrates on the madness going on in Afghanistan, reviewing questions raised by the establishment’s Foreign Policy magazine back in August and then responding to them. It’s far more than we can do here, except to touch on a couple of points that especially hit me:

For one, he thinks Obama will be less – much less – dangerous in foreign affairs than Romney would have been:

How Harry Reid Milks the System

Betsy Woodruff: How Did Harry Reid Get Rich?

Try this thought experiment. Imagine that someone grows up in poverty, works his way through law school by holding the night shift as a Capitol Hill policeman, and spends all but two years of his career as a public servant. Now imagine that this person’s current salary—and he’s at the top of his game—is $193,400. You probably wouldn’t expect him to have millions in stocks, bonds, and real estate.

Harry Reid - Caricature

If he’s a politician, of course you would. I remember someone saying that Lyndon Johnson went to Washington “intending to do good, and wound up doing very well indeed.” Harry Reid must have watched and learned from LBJ.

Here’s how it’s done:

In 2004, the senator made $700,000 off a land deal that was, to say the least, unorthodox. It started in 1998 when he bought a parcel of land with attorney Jay Brown, a close friend whose name has surfaced multiple times in organized-crime investigations and whom one retired FBI agent described as “always a person of interest.”

Three years after the purchase, Reid transferred his portion of the property to Patrick Lane LLC, a holding company Brown controlled. But Reid kept putting the property on his financial disclosures, and when the company sold it in 2004, he profited from the deal—a deal on land that he didn’t technically own and that had nearly tripled in value in six years.

Shinny up close to a shady character, and go along for the ride. Not close enough to be indicted, you understand, but close enough to triple your money without getting dirty. What a game!

From the article:

Here’s another example: The Los Angeles Times reported in November 2006 that when Reid became Senate majority leader he committed to making earmark reform a priority, saying he’d work to keep congressmen from using federal dollars for pet projects in their districts. It was a good idea but an odd one for the senator to espouse.

He had managed to get $18 million set aside to build a bridge across the Colorado River between Laughlin, NV, and Bullhead City, AZ, a project that wasn’t a priority for either state’s transportation agency.

His ownership of 160 acres of land nearby that stood to appreciate considerably from the project had nothing to do with the decision, according to one of his aides. The property’s value has varied since then. On his financial-disclosure forms from 2006, it was valued at $250,000 to $500,000. Open Secrets now lists it as his most valuable asset, worth $1 million to $5 million as of 2010.

It’s all about being in the right place at the right. It’s also nice if you can arrange things so that you’re in the right place at the right time.

Good job, Harry!

Big Brother is Watching Everyone Doing Everything

Judge Andrew Napolitano: Gazillions

Gazillions. That’s the number of times the federal government has spied on Americans since 9/11 through the use of drones, legal search warrants, illegal search warrants, federal agent-written search warrants and just plain government spying.

Drone During Storm

Drone During Storm (Photo credit: Truthout.org)

This is bad enough. And it confirms what we conspiratorialists (yep, that’s me!) have been saying for years. As my good friend Jeff Wright says, if “they” have the technology to spy on us, “they” will use it, regardless.

What’s truly horrifying is the other point Napolitano is making, and that is that Senator Paul isn’t able to tell his citizens what he knows: it’s against the law!

Here’s how the good judge explains it:

The rules for classified briefings of members of Congress on areas of government behavior that the government wants to keep from its employers—the American people—are a real Catch-22. Those rules allow representatives and senators to interrogate government officials about government behavior that they are afraid to reveal, and they require those officials to answer honestly and completely. But the rules keep the interrogations secret, and they expressly prohibit members of Congress from telling anyone what they have learned.

So Paul and his colleagues who joined in the secret briefing now know the terrible truth about the government watching us, but they cannot reveal what they know. Paul—who is the son of Rep. Ron Paul, the greatest congressional defender of limited government in our era—when asked what he learned at these secret briefings and aware that he could be prosecuted for telling the truth, chose a fictitious word to describe the vast number of violations of privacy at the hands of federal agents: gazillions…

The point here is terrifying. If the government derives its powers from the consent of the governed, how can it do things to us to which we have not consented? And when it does these things—like send a drone over your back yard to learn who is coming to your Saturday barbeque or to see what fertilizer you are using in your vegetable garden or to take a peek into your living room or bedroom—and when the laws the government has written prevent our elected representatives from telling us what it is doing, we are at the doorsteps of tyranny.

Indeed we are.

A Second Amendment Refresher

Michael Scheuer: To President Obama: The 2nd Amendment is about fighting tyranny, not hunting deer

At day’s end, then, the 2nd Amendment exists to permit American citizens to perform the “duty” Jefferson describes by resisting and defeating with arms a federal government that knowingly produces a “train of abuses and usurpations” that is designed “to reduce them under absolute Despotism.”

Tree Of Liberty

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” -Thomas Jefferson (Photo credit: CmdrGravy)

I’d never heard of Michael Scheuer, the author of this fine article, until today. His Wikipedia entry is seven printed pages long and tells us that he is a former CIA officer (who obviously decided to “come in from the cold”) and is currently an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s Center for Peace and Security. Normally that would make me nervous, but here it reinforces my belief that this guy knows what he’s talking about. Not everyone who teaches at Georgetown is a traitor, thankfully.

He posits a series of “what ifs” in his article, and then asks rhetorically, what would you do?

[What if] multiple U.S. presidents take the United States to war without the formal declaration of war irrefutably demanded by the U.S. Constitution, and then intentionally fail to win the wars they start and so kill thousands of America‘s soldier-children for nothing?

[What if] senior elected officials in both parties, as well as senior federal bureaucrats constantly leak highly classified intelligence information to advance their partisan interests and thereby knowingly undermine U.S. national security?

[What it] presidents and attorney generals from both parties pick and choose what laws they will enforce, in direct and flagrant violation of the oath to execute all laws that the Constitution mandates they swear on taking office?

[What if] the federal government so overspends the public treasury that the national debt can never be repaid, and that in funding the debt it also compromises U.S. independence and citizens’ economic well-being via massive borrowing from malign foreign powers and by exacting half-a-year’s wages from each American taxpayer?

Well, you get the idea. After exploring rhetorically several other “what ifs,” Scheuer gets to the point:

If the sorry day ever dawns when one or more of the above depredations occur, I would suggest Americans might well think about taking recourse to the arms guaranteed them by the 2nd Amendment, arms with which to defend their liberty, economic welfare, national independence, and their Constitution’s viability.

Thanks for the reminder, Mr. Scheuer. The Second Amendment, as they say, “ain’t about duck huntin’.”

New High-Tech Body Scanners Courtesy of the CIA

Millimeter wave technology. Gen 2 scanner manufactured by Brijot of Lake Mary, Fla. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The latest piece of terrifying technology, the Picosecond Programmable Laser scanner from Genia Photonics, will be able to identify gunpowder residue on an individual’s shoes, and what he had for breakfast along with his adrenaline levels, according to the anonymous author of Gizmodo.com.

The portable unit, about the size of a breadbox, is described as “robust” and “mobile,” meaning it could not only be used in airports to supplement  the invasions of privacy already being performed by the TSA but also in mobile units, such as police cruisers, roaming the streets, looking for suspicious “wavelength patterns and sequences.” According to anonymous:

The machine is ten million times faster—and one million times more sensitive—than any currently available system. That means that it can be used systematically on everyone passing through airport security, not just suspect or randomly sampled people…

The small, inconspicuous machine is attached to a computer running a program that will show the information in real time, from trace amounts of cocaine on your dollar bills to gunpowder residue on your shoes. Forget trying to sneak a bottle of water past security—they will be able to tell what you had for breakfast in an instant while you’re walking down the hallway.

All of this is being provided through a grant system set up in 1999 by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) when it was discovered that the agency was falling behind the technology curve and decided to do something about it. According to the CIA:

By the 1990s, however, especially with the advent of the World Wide Web, it is the commercial market that is setting the pace in IT [information technology] innovation. And, as is the nature of a market-based economy, the flow of capital and talent has irresistibly moved to the commercial sector, where the prospect of huge profits from initial public offerings and equity-based compensation has become the norm.

In contrast to the remarkable transformations taking place in Silicon Valley and elsewhere, the Agency, like many large Cold War era private sector corporations, felt itself being left behind. It was not connected to the creative forces that underpin the digital economy and, of equal importance, many in Silicon Valley knew little about the Agency’s IT needs. The opportunities and challenges posed by the information revolution to the Agency’s core mission areas of clandestine collection and all-source analysis were growing daily. Moreover, the challenges are not merely from foreign countries but also transnational threats [such as drug cartels].

And so, in coordination with Congress which provided some start-up funds, a quasi-private venture capital company was set up, called In-Q-Tel, with major intellectual input provided by

Gun Sales Explode in Wake of Shooting

John Ransom: Common Defense: In Crisis, America Buys Guns, Hurray!

While the Left looks for more reasons to restrict our right to self-defense every time an infamous shooting occurs, the standard reaction of the general population in Colorado is to stock up on guns and ammo in self-defense.

Well, of course they do. By “they” I also mean “me” and others of similar suasion. The average American isn’t so dumb. He can see he’s being set up again. I’m more and more convinced that the Aurora shooting was a “false flag” event even though I can’t prove it, at least not yet. And my editor at The New American has suggested that I don’t “get ahead of the evidence” and so you won’t find much of that point of view in articles I write for him.

But the average Joe has figured it out, even if it turns out that Aurora was just the maniacal behavior of a single deranged individual. The shooting will provide another excuse to promote more gun control. Excuse me: people control. Guns are inanimate.

And their immediate response is to exercise their freedoms while they still have them. And are they ever!  According to Reuters, America is the most heavily-armed country in the world with 90 guns for every 100 people, or a total of 270 million guns. 8 million guns are manufactured every year in the world, and 4 ½ million of them are bought by Americans exercising their rights. And that data from Reuters is five years old!

The British tabloid Telegraph noted that last December more than 1 ½ million background checks were conducted—a proxy for new gun sales—the highest on record. On December 23rd there were 102,222 background checks completed. Merry Christmas, pops!

I’m hopeful that these purchasers appreciate not only the extraordinary freedom they are exercising, but also have some understanding that without the Second Amendment there wouldn’t be any First Amendment, or any other amendments, for that matter. I’m hopeful that they will learn how important their decision is to own and use properly and responsibly a weapon for self-defense purposes. I’m hopeful too that they never have to exercise the right to self-defense, either against a thug or a thuggish government.

James Holmes: Front Man for CIA False Flag Op?

Mike Adams: Colorado Batman shooting shows obvious signs of being staged

More and more, this shooting is looking like a deliberate plot staged by the government itself much like Operation Fast and Furious pulled off by the ATF which helped smuggle tens of thousands of guns into Mexico for the purpose of causing “gun violence” in the USA, then blaming the Second Amendment for it.

James Holmes

James Holmes (Photo credit: seatonsnet)

One of my first thoughts, expressed in my initial posting here on Friday morning, was the possibility of a link between the Aurora shooting and the UN treaty in New York. I wrote it, but I was skeptical, thinking it was a bit of a reach.

I don’t think so now, after reading Mike Adams’ article which explores in detail the possibility of the shooting being a false flag event.

He notes:

His behavior doesn’t add up

His behavior already reveals stark inconsistencies that question the mainstream explanation of events. For example, he opened fire on innocent people but then calmly surrendered to police without resistance. This is not consistent with the idea of “killing everyone.”

Furthermore, he then admitted to police that his apartment was booby-trapped with explosives. If you were really an evil-minded Joker trying to kill people (including cops), why would you warn them about the booby trap in advance? It doesn’t add up.

“Holmes was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, police said, adding he didn’t resist when he was arrested,” reports a local CBS news affiliate.

“After his arrest, Holmes told police about ‘possible explosives in his residence,’ Oates said. When police searched his apartment, they discovered it was booby-trapped and evacuated surrounding buildings, police said. Oates said bomb technicians are determining how to disarm flammable or explosive material in the third-floor apartment. He said police could be there some time.”

None of this checks out. If you’re a killer bent on causing mayhem, why tell the police about your surprise bomb waiting for them back at your apartment?

Adams thinks it’s the FBI. I think the CIA is the more likely culprit:

This is not your run-of-the-mill crime of passion. It was a carefully planned, heavily funded and technically advanced attack. Who might be behind all this? The FBI, of course, which has a long history of setting up and staging similar attacks, then stopping them right before they happen. See four documented stories on these facts:

http://www.naturalnews.com/035849_domestic_terror_plots_FBI.html
http://www.naturalnews.com/034325_FBI_entrapment_terror_plots.html
http://www.naturalnews.com/033751_FBI_terrorism.html
http://www.naturalnews.com/035757_FBI_terror_plots_false_flag.htm

The one party not mentioned by Adams is the BATFE, which is run by an avid anti-gunner appointed by Obama. But that doesn’t matter. The real emphasis is on generating sufficient anti-gun fervor to force the UN Arms Control Act into and get it passed by the Senate.

Even Forbes.com wrote about this quite extensively, warning readers about the coming gun confiscation effort related to the UN treaty. The story was authored by Larry Bell and says the UN treaty could “override our national sovereignty, and in the process, provide license for the federal government to assert preemptive powers over state regulatory powers guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment in addition to our Second Amendment rights.”

In other words, this has all the signs of Fast & Furious, Episode II. I wouldn’t be surprised to discover someone in Washington was behind it all. After all, there’s no quicker way to disarm a nation and take total control over the population than to stage violence, blame it on firearms, then call for leaders to “do something!” Such calls inevitably end up resulting in gun confiscation, and it’s never too long after that before government genocide really kicks in like we saw with Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao and other tyrants.

Here’s the big difference. More than 100 million Americans already own guns. Those poor souls under Stalin, et al, were unarmed.

Stay tuned to see if this false flag conjecture gets legs.

CISPA is Big Brother’s Friend

CISPA - The solution is the problem

This is “cybersecurity week,” according to Brock Meeks at Wired.com when CISPA (the Orwellian-named Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act) is scheduled to move to the House floor for a vote. Offered originally before SOPA (the Stop Online Piracy Act) and its sister PIPA (Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act) were blown up in January, Reps. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) and Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.) have offered some amendments to the bill (H.R. 3523) to soften some of its critics and to avoid the same result.

The primary problem, according to Meeks, is that it tries to kill a flea with a baseball bat: Any alleged security the bill offers against potential hackers “comes at the expense of unfettered government access to our personal information, which is then likely to be sucked into the secretive black hole of the spying complex known as the National Security Agency.”

Despite some window dressing by Mssrs. Rogers and Ruppersberger, the bill still has major problems. First it has “an overly broad, almost unlimited definition of the information [that] can be shared [by private Internet companies] with government agencies.” It overrides existing federal or state privacy laws with its language that says information between private and public agencies is shared “notwithstanding any other provision of law.”

In addition, the bill would create a “backdoor wiretap program” because the information being shared isn’t limited specifically to issues of cybersecurity but could be used for any other purpose as well. The language is unclear about what would trigger a CISPA investigation: “efforts to degrade, disrupt or destroy” a network. Would that apply to someone innocently downloading a

Germany’s Merkel Yields More Sovereignty to the EU

EPP Summit Helsinki 4 March 2011

At a joint briefing on Wednesday with Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the next step towards the creation of the supra-national European state: “Germany sees the need…to show the markets and the world public that the euro will remain together, that the euro must be defended, but also that we are prepared to give up a little bit of national sovereignty…” It must be done, she said, so that the euro is “strong and inspires confidence on international markets.”

This could be done through changes in the Lisbon Treaty that comprises the basis for the European Union, or more likely through the signing into law the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) by December 31, 2012. Merkel explained that, either way, this would allow for “an intervention and oversight role in respect of the preparation of national budgets…” among the member states.

This would represent the culmination of more than 60 years of efforts by the Bilderberg Group with the help of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), David Rockefeller, and funding of the effort by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations. Joseph Retinger, one of the founders of the Bilderberg Group in 1954, was also one of the principal architects of the European Common Market. As early as 1946, in a speech to the Royal Institute of International Affairs (RIIA), the British counterpart of the CFR, Retinger said that Europe needed to create a federal union and that it would be necessary for the European countries to “relinquish part of their national sovereignty” to secure it. As noted by Andrew Gavin Marshall, research associate for the Centre for Research on Globalization, the effort to create the dictatorship of Europe goes back many years and is the creation of many hands:

Late last week GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney released the names of his foreign policy and national security advisors just in time for his Friday address on America’s foreign policy. He effused over his selection:

I am deeply honored to have the counsel of this extraordinary group of diplomats, experts and statesmen. Their remarkable experience, wisdom and depth of knowledge will be critical to ensuring that the 21st Century is another American Century.

His campaign continues to be plagued with an increasing chorus of doubters about his conservative posture. His claim to have balanced the budget of Massachusetts without raising taxes was

Bohemian Grove: Where the Elite Meet to Eat (and Conspire)

Bohemian Grove

Debra Saunders complained that, because she is a woman, she wasn’t invited to the upcoming Bohemian Club meeting which begins this Thursday at the Bohemian Grove retreat center an hour’s drive north of San Francisco. Even if she were a man, she most likely still wouldn’t be invited as she is not a member of the “elite.”

Founded just after the Civil War by Henry “Harry” Edwards as a private camp where bohemians—artists and writers—could go to relax and recuperate from the rigors of the work-a-day world, over time the club’s membership evolved to include the rich and powerful, which now numbers over 2,400.

The Economy Also Weakens Obama’s Reelection Hopes

Obama leaves the stage

The trickle of bad news about the economy has turned into a torrent, and is now threatening Barack Obama’s chances at reelection. On Wednesday the Institute for Supply Management issued its manufacturing index, which was expected to rise. Instead, it fell, to 53.5, perilously close to the edge of recession in manufacturing. John Silva, an economist at Wells Fargo, was blunt:

Tea Party Cements Patriot Act Into Place

"A Patriot Act"

In light of recent extensions of the Patriot Act, it can be concluded that many Tea Partiers are reneging on parts of the Tea Party agenda. Of the 41 Tea Party-backed candidates, 31 voted to extend the Patriot Act, eight voted against it, and one did not vote. As John Tyner stated at Lewrockwell.com: “Despite the eight nea votes, Tea Party-backed candidates overwhelmingly backed an extension of the Patriot Act.”

It took Congress scarcely six weeks after the 9/11 terrorist attacks to write, deliberate, and then overwhelmingly pass the Orwellian-named USA PATRIOT Act on October 26, 2001, and the Bill of Rights hasn’t been the same since. In its chilling summary of the law, Wikipedia noted

When Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) vented his frustration at further involvement by the United States in foreign countries despite constitutional limitations against such involvement, he declared:  “Stay out of Yemen!” Unfortunately, almost no one is listening.

Yemen is located on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by Saudi Arabia on the north, the Red Sea on the west, the Gulf of Aden on the south, and Oman on the east. It is one of the poorest countries in the world, with unemployment exceeding 40 percent and the average citizen living on less than $1.25 a day. Its history is a running sore of intervention by outside influences and internal civil wars. It could be a vital, prosperous country by dint of its strategic location alone. Instead, it is best known for internal political corruption and increasing dependence upon foreign aid.
