Have nothing to do with the [evil] things that people do, things that belong to the darkness. Instead, bring them out to the light... [For] when all things are brought out into the light, then their true nature is clearly revealed...

Active Shooter Defense Classes Springing Up Following Texas Church Massacre

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Friday, November 10, 2017:

FBI New agent training.

In just the last two years, former FBI agent J. Pete Blair, author of the FBI’s “Study of Active Shooter Incidents in the United States Between 2000 and 2013,” has trained more than 130,000 citizens in how to respond to the sudden presence of an active shooter. Blair now leads the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training program at Texas State University. Said Blair: “We’ve seen a series of incidents and an increase in lethality [but] it could be that we’ve had a really unlucky few weeks.”

Lucky or not, American citizens are flocking to training classes offering strategies they can use if they are confronted with an armed attacker. Churches are

Will Johnson Amendment Repeal Put Politics in the Pulpit?

According to the Wall Street Journal, repeal of the Johnson Amendment isn’t likely to have much impact on preaching from the pulpit, and it could instead cause problems. Writer Ian Lovett wrote that lifting the ban “could cause problems for houses of worship … creating fault lines in their congregations and could drive people away.”

Lovett quoted from one nondenominational “Cooperative Baptist Church” pastor who called repeal “dangerous.” Daniel Glaze, senior pastor at Richmond, Virginia’s River Road Church, told Lovett:

Zig Ziglar’s Fleas and the Johnson Amendment

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Monday, May 8, 2017:

By the time of his passing in 2012, Zig Ziglar had motivated millions and written more than a dozen self-help books. His best-known were his first, See You at the Top, written in 1975, and his last, Born to Win: Find Your Success Code, published just months before he died.

But he called himself, first and foremost, America’s “flea trainer.” This was from one of his favorite stories told in his signature talk “Biscuits, Fleas, and Pump Handles.” Apparently, when placed in an open jar, fleas tend to want to escape to freedom, and jump right out. But if a lid were placed on the jar, the fleas would soon learn that their attempts to escape were fruitless to the point where the lid could be removed and they would only jump to where the lid once was. The obstacle to their freedom had been removed but the fleas behaved as it if were still in place.

Robert Jeffress (shown) has never been a flea.

Churches Oppose Repeal of the Johnson Amendment

Part of a letter sent to top members of Congress earlier this month and signed onto by 99 churches says: “The charitable sector, particularly houses of worship, should not become another cog in a political machine or another loophole in campaign finance laws.”

Pushback to President Donald Trump’s promises to repeal the Johnson Amendment was expected from the American Humanist Association and American Atheists, and he got it. But from Baptists?

Trump said at a campaign event in Virginia in October, “I think [the Johnson Amendment is] very unfair, and one of the things I will do very early in my administration is to get rid of [it] so that our great pastors and ministers, rabbis … and priests and everybody can go and tell and participate in the [political] process.”

This became part of the Republican Party’s platform:

Do Trump’s Flip Flops Reflect Lack of Constitutional Understanding?

The mainstream media have rejoiced because they perceive that President Donald Trump has abandoned policies and changed long-held positions that they have considered anathema. Politico said the president has “demonstrated an incredible willingness to bend his past positions, or abandon them entirely. Sometimes he offers an explanation; sometimes not.” CNN called them “stunning U-turns on key issues” reflecting “extraordinary political shape-shifting.”

The “key issues” are Syria, Janet Yellen of the Federal Reserve, NAFTA, NATO, his hiring freeze, China’s currency manipulation, and the Export-Import Bank.

Syria tops the list currently as the president,

Referred to colloquially as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac respectively, Mnuchin told Maria:

Gallup: Assault Weapons Ban Support at Lowest Level Ever Recorded

The Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution.

Poll results released on Wednesday by Gallup confirm the trend toward the acceptance of the freedom to own guns and support of the Second Amendment. Sixteen years ago 59 percent of those polled favored “a law which would make it illegal to manufacture, sell or possess semi-automatic guns known as assault rifles,” while just 39 percent were opposed. Today those numbers have flipped: Just 36 percent support a ban, while 61 percent of those polled oppose it.

Even those polled who don’t have a gun in their home oppose such a ban. Most surprisingly, however, is that support for such a ban has dropped even among those most likely to support one:

“If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth” is attributed to Joseph Goebbels. Whether the mainstream media intends it or not, it certainly has an estimate of how many guns are owned by Americans:

National Public Radio: More than 300 million,

Washington Post:  357 million,

New York Times: 280 to 320 million, and so on.

Rubio’s Donors Reveal His Support of a Different Agenda

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Friday, November 6, 2015:

With the recent revelation that Senator Marco Rubio has been receiving, and is actively soliciting, funds from billionaires with vastly different agendas from those voters who elected him in 2010, many are questioning how he would act if he were elected president.

With the departure of Scott Walker from the Republican cast of candidates seeking their party’s nomination, and with the virtual disappearance of a presence in the polls by establishment candidate Jeb Bush, it was no surprise that Rubio’s star began its ascendancy. As Paul Singer, one of Rubio’s wealthy donors, wrote, Rubio

House Speaker John Boehner to Step Down, Leave Congress

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Friday, September 25, 2015:

House Speaker John Boehner — second in the line of succession to the presidency — announced through an aide Friday morning that, effective the end of October, he would resign his position as speaker of the House and vacate his seat in Congress. Said the aide:

The speaker believes [that] putting members through prolonged leadership turmoil would do irreparable damage to the institution.

He is proud of what this majority has accomplished, and his speakership, but for the good of the Republican Conference and the institution, he will resign the speakership and his seat in Congress, effective October 30.

When Senator Marco Rubio (R–Fla.) told attendees at the Values Voter Summit of Boehner’s decision, the crowd erupted with cheers and claps.

Boehner had originally planned to leave the post in 2014, but the surprise upset of Eric Cantor, then serving as the House Majority Leader, in the primary in June caused him to “recalculate” that decision.

Long challenged and chastised for taking positions that weren’t supported by conservatives in the House, Boehner initially became speaker in 2011 with a unanimous vote, but he was only narrowly reelected in 2013, as disenchantment with his willingness to compromise with Democrats and the White House became more and more obvious.

His votes for the Trade Promotion Authority (TPP) and the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) were just two of many sour notes on his voting record

U.S. President Barack Obama meets with Speaker of the House John Boehner

The very day that John Boehner announced his resignation as Speaker of the House and his intention to vacate his seat, his fund-raising letter arrived in the mail. It positively dripped with sincerity:

This past January I was sworn in as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and I reaffirmed my promise to continue leading our Republican House Majority in listening to you and following your will.

Resistance to the President’s Gun Control Plan Continues to Build

Admitting that passing his ambitious plan to rein in shooting incidents like the one that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut last month would “be difficult,” President Obama published a 22-page explanation of exactly what he has in mind. There are “four common-sense steps we can take right now,” according to the White House blog. The two steps meeting the most resistance are:

Another turncoat on the Second Amendment

Joe Scarborough has sold out. How do I know this? Because Chuck Baldwin and Michael Bloomberg have said so. In yesterday’s column Baldwin recounts his personal history with Scarborough:

This is the same Joe Scarborough who was elected to Congress in 1994 from the First Congressional District of Florida. He ran as a staunch pro-Second Amendment conservative. He was elected to Congress by staunch Pro-Second Amendment conservatives. Now, Scarborough is joining the chorus of the anti-gun left by adding his voice for more gun control.

At one time, Joe and I were fairly close. I hosted a prominent radio talk show in Joe’s district at the time and did everything I could do to help him win that US House seat. At one time, Joe, and several members of his family, verbalized to me that had it not been for my support, he would not have won his congressional seat. At the time, I was proud to do it.

And then Scarborough got the Godfather offer:

Bob Costas, Jason Whitlock, and Chuck Baldwin

Pastor Chuck Baldwin brings to light some things about Bob Costas’s comments about Jovan Belcher (the Kansas City Chiefs’ linebacker who murdered his girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself) that the national press, with rare exceptions, has not mentioned.

First he provides us with Costa’s full rant, (which it turns out he was quoting from Jason Whitlock):

Our current gun culture ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead. Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it…If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.”

Baldwin makes clear that Belcher didn’t really need a gun:

Since when would a 240-pound linebacker need any help killing a woman half his size and strength? Does one really believe if someone is intent on murder, the lack of a firearm would deter him or her? How many people are killed with knives, clubs, axes, “blunt objects,” or even bare hands?

Next, Baldwin refutes the lie that guns “do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws…” by showing that guns are used far more often to prevent tragedies than to cause them.  He quotes Larry Pratt, president of Gun Owners of America:

Perhaps Mr. Costas would have been disappointed if Ms. Perkins had had access to a gun and shot Belcher first? Would he then have thought there were too many guns? Actually, he might not have even heard about a self-defense shooting. Outside of the local press, self-defense shootings rarely make national news.

There are so many self-defense shootings each year that the national news would be carrying several accounts a day. Guns are used over 4,000 times a day (using conservative research findings) in self-defense. In fact, using those conservative figures given us by the Clinton Justice Department, guns are used 50 times more often in self-defense than to illegitimately take life.

Next, he has discovered a source that tells us more about what actually happened:

A report in the New York Post more accurately describes the causes of this tragedy: “Kansas City Chiefs linebacker and former Long Island high-school star Jovan Belcher was allegedly battling football-related head injuries and booze, painkiller and domestic problems when he snapped and murdered his girlfriend before killing himself in front of two coaches Saturday.”

Here’s something I learned about Jason Whitlock whom Costas quoted, from Wikipedia:

On February 10, 2012, in the middle of the Knicks’ 92–85 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, with Jeremy Lin scoring a career-high 38 points, Fox Sports columnist Jason Whitlock posted on Twitter, “Some lucky lady in NYC is gonna feel a couple inches of pain tonight.”[3]Hyphen wrote that Whitlock “reinforced the insipid and insidious ‘small Asian penis’ stereotype.[4] The Asian American Journalists Association demanded an apology. Later, Whitlock said, “I debased a feel-good sports moment. For that, I’m truly sorry.”

But not sorry enough to change his behavior or clean up his thinking:

In a follow-up interview with Roland Martin on December 3, 2012 Jason Whitlock stated: “I believe the NRA is the new KKK. And that the arming of so many black youths, uh, and loading up our community with drugs, and then just having an open shooting gallery, is the work of people who obviously don’t have our best interests [at heart].”

Costas made the mistake of quoting someone with a bias without first checking to see if the bias had any merit. By not doing so, Baldwin is right in calling Costas “just another mindless gun control nut.”

Obama’s Reelection May Lead to Gun Confiscation

Arms Trade Treaty Banana Shootout

Pastor Chuck Baldwin is long past being polite and pulling his punches. In his latest newsletter he reminds us that people are beginning to become restless. The petitions on secession are mounting in numbers daily, and he thinks that’s a good thing. Not that they will have any impact whatsoever:

Does anyone believe that these states are really going to secede from the union? Of course not. At least, not yet. Citizen petitions are just that. In order for a State to secede it would have to be formally declared by an act of the State’s legislature and governor. Good luck finding many of those.

But they do represent a stirring of discontent which could be the beginning of something much bigger and more ominous. Baldwin thinks that Obama is going to be successful in ramming the UN small arms treaty through the Senate, which is the next step to enforced confiscation. He sees it coming,

W and the GOP Gave the Election to Obama

This no doubt will upset some people but, in my opinion, Pastor Baldwin has properly called out the Republican Party for giving the election to Obama. On the good side, he thinks little has changed in Washington as a result of the election. On the other side, the fight for freedom was not advanced in any significant or measurable way. And that he blames on the GOP:

Ever since Reagan, Republicans have routinely rejected legitimate freedomists and have nominated pseudo-conservatives. The result has always led to a resounding defeat for Republicans at the polls. Since the defeat of George H.W. Bush after one term in 1992, due to his blatant big-government and globalist policies, Democrats have dominated the White House. The lone exception was the election of G.W. Bush in 2000 and 2004. But, Bush, Jr., ran as a Reagan-conservative. He wasn’t, of course, but he was perceived as one.

But it was Bush, the Big-Spending-Warmonger, that doomed the GOP’s future [efforts]. Bush’s out-of-control deficit spending, coupled with his preemptive wars of aggression, and the implementation of a burgeoning police state/surveillance society made the name “Republican” something dirty to the American electorate. As a result, the GOP is in complete disarray and without principled leadership.

The GOP picked someone who simply couldn’t win, while ignoring the one man who could have

Pollsters Looking at Pollsters and Mittens Closing Strong

Hugh Hewitt

Hugh Hewitt (Photo credit: jdlasica)

I love it when someone sticks his neck out, and then looks around to see if anyone else is also. Hewitt is a talk show host and is great for finding out what others think and the riffing on that with his own comments. Sort of like what I do here.

Hewitt thinks Romney is going to win on Tuesday. And he’s glad to ride Michael Barone‘s coattails while doing so:

[Yesterday] Barone, having surveyed all the polling data from every source and all the early voting numbers from all the states, sees Mitt Romney rolling up 315 Electoral College votes, including the states of Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire, Wisconsin –and Pennsylvania!

That agrees with what Hewitt thinks:

Other evidence is rolling in to back up Barone’s prediction, most especially the not-friendly-to-Romney Washington Post tracking poll which put the governor a point ahead of the president on Friday night, a post-Sandy sign of a momentum swing towards Romney.

He thinks Hurricane Sandy helped Romney. He quotes another observer who

Pastor Chuck Baldwin’s Election Predictions Resonate with Me

Chuck Baldwin

Chuck Baldwin (Photo credit: Gage Skidmore)

Baldwin is a remarkable man. His Wikipedia entry is almost a puff piece, but you can’t avoid noting his character, his willingness to take a stand, and to make tough decisions in accordance with the light he has been given. This from Wiki is especially revealing:

In 2010, Baldwin retired from his position as pastor of Crossroad Baptist Church and announced his intention to move to Montana, because he believed God had told him that the Mountain states were the “tip of the spear in the freedom fight.”

In March 2011, he wrote an article in support of the American Redoubt concept originated by novelist and blogger James Wesley Rawles. This plan designates five western states (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, eastern Oregon, and eastern Washington) as a safe haven for conservative Christians.

In a June 9, 2011 article, Baldwin outlined his reasons for choosing the Flathead Valley of Western Montana for his family’s home. He cited Montana’s freedom-loving people, its recognition of the right to keep and bear arms, and a feeling of strong conviction, following prayer.

And so, when he speaks, I listen:

I think Mitt Romney will somewhat comfortably win the Presidential election.

This will cause “conservatives,” Christians, and most Republicans to go into a state of deep hibernation, which will allow Romney to wreak havoc upon the Constitution and liberties of the people.

In 2012, Barack Obama is the “Boogeyman” that must defeated at all costs. But the fact is, with the exception of Romney’s more business-friendly approach to economics, the differences between Obama and Romney are negligible.

He reiterates the similarities between
