Have nothing to do with the [evil] things that people do, things that belong to the darkness. Instead, bring them out to the light... [For] when all things are brought out into the light, then their true nature is clearly revealed...

Study: $15 Minimum Wage Would Force McDonald’s to Increase Prices 38 Percent

This article appeared online at TheNewAmerican.com on Monday, February 20, 2017:

James Sherk, a Hillsdale graduate and now the Bradley Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, found that if a $15 minimum wage is enforced across the country, fast food prices will jump far more than initially thought. A 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, currently priced at $4.49, would jump to $6.20. A Starbucks Grande Mocha Frappuccino would increase from $4.56 to $6.29, while a 6-inch turkey sub at Subway would cost $5.87, up from $4.25. A Whopper Meal from Burger King would jump to $8.96 from $6.49.

A CrunchWrap Supreme, Crunchy Taco and large drink from Taco Bell would cost $8.27, up from $5.99; a Wendy’s Son of Baconator Combo, currently $6.69 would cost $9.23; a Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich Combo, priced at  $5.95, would cost $8.21; and a Pizza Hut Medium Hand-Tossed Cheese Pizza, on today’ menu at $11.95, would jump to $16.55.

That’s a 38-percent increase, far higher than many old-school economists have concluded, and it puts the lie to union claims that raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour would result in a transfer of wealth from rich business owners to low-paid workers. Sherk’s analysis concludes that there would be a transfer, but it wouldn’t be from the business owners: It would be from their customers.

First, those owners with a McDonald’s franchise aren’t rich and they’re not likely to become rich. Ed Rensi, who worked for McDonald’s for 30 years, ending up as the company’s CEO in 1991 and retiring in 2007, told Forbes:

The Broken Promise of Minimum wage laws

This article was published by The McAlvany Intelligence Advisor on Monday, February 20, 2017:

The promise is that by requiring businesses to pay their employees $15 an hour, the net result is that everyone will live better. The low-paid people will have more money to spend, the upward “ripple” effect on other higher-paid people in the organization will also have more money to spend, the economy will grow, there will be more jobs hiring people who will then have more money to spend, and so on into the woodwork.

This was the claim by that “poverty” expert, former Senator Teddy Kennedy whose family’s wealth extended backwards for generations, who said that

Insight Into the LGBT Mindset

Michael Brown: The FRC Shooting and Inflammatory Gay Rhetoric

Day and night, LGBT people are told how much we [Christians] hate and despise them, that Prop 8 in California was actually Prop Hate, that Chick-Fil-A serves “hate chicken” (this from the mayor of Washington, DC).

Is it any surprise, then, that a number of churches were vandalized after the Prop 8 vote in 2008 or that a Chick-Fil-A store had the words “tastes like hate” scrawled on its walls? And given the view that failure to affirm homosexuality is an act of hate, is it any surprise that in April of this year, a church in Seattle had its windows smashed by a group called Angry Queers?

The hard-core militants in the gay movement are those whom Brown is calling out and his message is compelling: They hate Christians and the message of Christ. When the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) calls the Family Research Council, the target of the gay shooter last week, a “hate group”, it’s time to put some serious distance between them. Or so one would think. But no, one of the leading lights of LGBT, Wayne Besen, climbed on board with SPLC:

Wayne Besen, founding executive director of Truth Wins Out, was one of the signers of the joint LGBT statement condemning the FRC shooting on August 15th. One day later, he assured his readers that the FRC “loathes LGBT people with a special passion” and that the SPLC was “100% correct” in labeling the FRC a hate group…

Michael Brown, the author of this column at Townhall.com attended a gay pride event last year along with other Christians. Besen’s response is chilling:

Last year, at the gay pride event in Charlotte, about 400 Christians (including me) wore “God Has a Better Way” tee-shirts and handed out 2,500 bottles of water inscribed with “Jesus Loves You.” (For us, “the Jesus Revolution” means putting down swords of violence and hatred and picking up crosses of truth and love.)

In response, Besen wrote an article entitled, “Michael Brown Is an Anti-Gay Monster,” claiming that my “game is to try inciting followers to possible violence against LGBT people.” He stated, “I do strongly believe to my core that Brown’s ultimate goal is to create the conditions for a nasty physical clash,” claiming that, “The madman fully understands that he only has to create a hostile climate to inflame the most unstable of his thugs and they will eventually provoke the type of confrontation that this pathological monster deeply desires.”

What effect do such vitriolic, ugly, and hate-filled words have on an unstable gay reader? And how would that person recognize that there is not a grain of truth in Besen’s inflammatory words?

This is an insight to some of the gay mindset, and it isn’t pretty.

The First Amendment Protects Chick-fil-A, Too

Ed Feulner: Of Free Speech and Chick-Fil-A

“We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles,” Cathy added in the interview that led to the controversy.

Or at least we used to. Feulner, president of the Heritage Foundation, makes a very good point: the shouting by the “left” over Cathy’s alleged “intolerance” hides their own intolerance of his views.

There are five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment (I wonder how many people can recite all of them?):

  • Religion
  • Speech
  • The press
  • Peaceably to assemble
  • Petition for redress of grievances

All that Cathy did was answer, honestly, a question. He said he is “very much supportive of the family, the biblical definition of the family unit.” And the interview was first printed in an obscure Baptist paper.

But the intolerance vigilantes found it—they have a lot of time on their hands, apparently—and blew it up. It gave all the “biggies” on the left to weigh in on the matter: Chicago Mayor (and Obama’s good friend) Rahm Emanuel, Chicago alderman Joe Moreno, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Philadelphia city councilman James Kenney, among others. And the media (not our friend, remember) was overjoyed to trumpet their intolerance and outrage.

Cathy’s company is a model business citizen:

The Cathy family has been a model of corporate responsibility, helping tackle social problems and strengthen civil society. For years, they’ve taken concrete steps to strengthen families through the programs of its WinShape Foundation. Founded in 1984 by S. Truett Cathy, WinShape supports college scholarships, foster care and international ministries.

It works hard to strengthen marriage, offering counseling and help for couples in crisis, saving marriages that had been on the brink of divorce.

But none of that matters to the media in cahoots with those offended by Cathy’s remarks. Facts don’t matter. And neither does the First Amendment.

A Brief History of Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day

At the invitation by Mike Huckabee on his Facebook page to his fans to “take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick-fil-A on Wednesday, August 1st,” nearly a million people responded back to him. So many responded, in fact, that his Facebook page “disappeared” for several hours before coming back online.

The controversy began when Dan Cathy, president of the fast food franchise, responded to a question about homosexuality in a small newspaper, The Baptist Press, early last month. Cathy then expanded on his remarks in an interview on The Ken Coleman Show on July 18th:

I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, “We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.” I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is…

We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that…

We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that.

He concluded by saying, “We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on Biblical principles.”

Not everyone is interested in sharing those values. First came former Obama chief of staff and now mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, who said

Dan Cathy, Reluctant Culture Warrior

Star Parker: Can it be un-American to be a Christian?

The fact that there is no evidence that Chick-fil-A discriminates in its business practices did not deter Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank from writing that Dan Cathy’s support of traditional marriage “…implied that gay people (not to mention divorced people) had no business eating at Chick-fil-A.”

Chick-Fil-A

Star Parker’s article is a pretty good summary of the attacks Dan Cathy, founder of Chick-fil-A, has had to endure because he is a follower of Christ. She notes the blatant hypocrisy of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when she spoke in Alexandria, Egypt:

…to us, real democracy means that every citizen has the right to live, work, and worship as they choose, whether they are man or woman, Muslim or Christian, or from any other background.

Nobody was there to ask her, however, about the attacks and threats directed to Dan Cathy’s company.

Parker also noted Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s discriminatory attack, saying “Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago’s values.” Just what those “Chicago values” actually are Emanuel failed to say, but one can guess: thuggery, oppression, fraud, deceit—all those things that go for making great politicians in Chicago.

Washington Post soiled itself, thanks to the ridiculous comments by one of its writers, Dana Milbank, who said that Dan Cathy’s support of traditional marriage “…implied that gay people (not to mention divorced people) had no business eating at Chick-fil-A.” Where that injudicious comment came from is anybody’s guess. But nothing close to reality, that’s for sure.

The one point Parker didn’t mention is Dan Cathy’s position as founder of Chick-fil-A and reluctant defender of the faith. Did Dan Cathy seek this role? Was he out looking to poke his stick into the eye of the atheists controlling the lamestream media? No. All he did was respond, in the Baptist Press for Heaven’s sake, to a question about his company’s values:

We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit…

which was enough to set off the PC army into its furious attacks.

But sometimes we are called upon, reluctantly, to take up His cause even though we did not seek it.

I’m going to “Eat Mor Chikin!”

Robert Knight: Eat Mor Chikin

The Atlanta-based, 1,600-restaurant chain, famous for its misspelling-prone cows that urge consumers to “eat mor chikin,” is under a full-scale fascistic assault, complete with obscene celebrity tweets and government bullying.

Somehow Dan Cathy (the founder of Chick-fil-A) has successfully gotten under the skin of members of the Christian-bashing left, and he did it without saying a single word about “gay marriage.”

Ever on the alert for anything that smacks of biblical truth and how it might impact society (and turn it away from rampant secularism), liberals are jumping into the chicken fat and exposing their hatred through the expression of vitriol directed towards the company.

In essence, they are shaking their collective (I love that word, and so do they) fists at God. All HE did was give us directions and instructions and rules and laws to follow to obtain abundant life. Jesus says, in the Amplified version, in John 10:10:

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

Here is what sticks in their craw: Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life.” And they don’t want to hear the truth because it would mean having to bow down before it, and HIM, and their excessive sense of self—called hubris—won’t allow them to consider doing that.

So what they do instead is download filth and obscenity and vileness that merely expose their moral bankruptcy for the entire world to see.

Philadelphia Councilman James F. Kenney wrote to Cathy: “take a hike and take your intolerance with you.”

Roseanne Barr tweeted “anyone who eats [expletive thankfully deleted]-Fil-A deserves to get the cancer that is sure to come from eating antibiotic filled tortured chickens 4Christ.”

You get the idea. Got to run. I’m off to visit a nearby Chick-fil-A…

Boston: The Cradle and Grave of Liberty

Michelle Malkin: Hey, Boston: Leave Chick-fil-A Alone

In an interview with the Baptist Press last month, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy talked about his personal support of traditional family values and fidelity. “(Guilty) as charged,” he told the reporter. “We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is so far off base here…he’s off the reservation! Employing foul language and wielding the power of government like a baseball bat, Menino exclaimed:

Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston.

If they need licenses in the city, it will be very difficult—unless they open up their policies.

We’re an open city. We’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion. That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the h-ll the name is, on our Freedom Trail.

Why don’t we start at the beginning? It’s not HIS freedom trail, it’s ours. It signifies the journey away from government oppression in the mid 1700’s Men stood up against the English crown and lost their lives because of it. When Boston was surrounded by English troops, other citizens from around the country supported them. On April 19th Paul Revere shouted: “The British are coming! The British are coming!”

But now the cry is: “You’re discriminating (somehow) and the freedom to exist for you—Chick-fil-A—has been cancelled. Go away and have a nice day!” So much for inclusion, Mr. Mayor!

I consider Boston to be both the cradle, and the grave, of liberty. Menino has done nothing to change my mind. Many years ago I attended the New England Rally for God, Family and Country, and learned firsthand just how intolerant and evil the powers in Boston were, and still are.

In order to create a photo-op for the front page of the Boston Globe—one of the world’s most despicable papers—one of their photographers started hassling one of the people sitting in the front row. After a few minutes of trying to get a rise out of the attendee by poking his camera in his face and refusing to leave him alone, the photographer got what he wanted: the citizen pushed him away, just as the camera clicked. The headline the next day, on the front page, was “Rally bully attacks cameraman!”

So I don’t go to Boston anymore. I haven’t for years. The place is Moscow on the Charles River!
