British journalist and commentator Piers Morgan has a unique view of American politics, and sees how the Democrats are virtually handing the midterm elections to the Republicans. A writer for a number of British tabloids, Morgan was appointed editor of the News of the World by Rupert Murdoch when he was just 29, making him the youngest editor of any British newspaper in half a century. He hosted Piers Morgan Live on CNN from 2011 to 2014.
On Monday he wrote, “The media hates him, Hollywood hates him, but every hysterical piece of abuse they throw at him just makes Trump stronger, and now the Democrats are heading for a midterms disaster.”
Why? “Because the US mainstream media has become the boy that cried wolf”:
Barely a week goes by without some supposed new “Trump crisis” fueling wall-to-wall cable news coverage and dire predictions of impeachment or even jail time for the President.
Yet within a few days, each “administration-threatening scandal” dissolves into a giant nothing-burger.
Wrote Morgan: “The effect of this endless hysterical cacophony, as I have repeatedly warned, has been to make Trump ever more popular with his base and with the GOP.”
Morgan thinks the Soros Express – the caravan of illegals funded by groups supported by the totalitarian billionaire and headed for America’s southern border – will be just too much of an opportunity for the president to miss:
As I write this, a “caravan” of more than 7,000 Central American migrants – most of them from Honduras – is moving towards the Southern border.
They intend trying to enter the United States illegally.
It’s hard to think of a more powerful image to vindicate Trump’s much criticized demand for a new “Wall,” isn’t it?
What an opportunity for the president to meet the latest challenge head-on. He could don his MAGA cap and his Superman cape and direct the military operations that would shut down the Express. Wrote Morgan:
Trump clearly believes this caravan will help Republicans in the midterms, and so do I. Expect to see the President down on that border very soon, playing Mr. Tough Guy.
The president is also getting a lot of help from the economy. The report from the Commerce Department due out on Friday is likely, according to Bloomberg’s bevy of economic forecasters, to show it growing at an annualized rate of 3.4 percent in the third quarter, after printing a 4.2 percent growth rate in the second.
Remarkably, that number will likely be depressed due to Hurricane Florence in September, which slowed household spending, employment, and industrial output in the southeastern part of the country. And that number is being challenged by the Atlanta Fed’s GDPNow forecast, which is currently showing 3.9 percent growth for the third quarter.
As Morgan noted, “The combined effect of all these ‘wins’ – obviously this is a subjective word if you’re a Democrat – is that Trump enters this election in an increasingly dominant position as a President who is doing exactly what he said he’d do.”
Love him or loathe him, there is no denying that he’s winning.
So once again, I can only advise the Democrats to stop their ridiculously self-defeating state of perpetual Trump outrage and work out how they’re actually going to beat him.
Because right now, Trump’s kicking your a**.
