Why am I surprised? The elitist mentality separates themselves from the serfs to whom their laws apply, but not to themselves. I’m speaking of Rep. Rhonda Fields whose website shows that she supports “Justice, Fairness, Community.” She represents House District 42 in Aurora, Colorado, and her voting record shows she voted for every one of the gun control laws recently passed by the House. She sports a 0% rating from the National Rifle Association and a 100% lifetime rating from the Colorado AFL-CIO.

But hard as I tried, I couldn’t find anything on her website or in her bio about her criminal record. I had to look elsewhere for that.

Where to begin?

We could start here, with a Denver Post article from 2010 which reported that she was arrested in 1976 on a larceny charge and in 1991 on a shoplifting charge. She explained it away:

It’s a very embarrassing dark, desperate time in my life. I disclosed it when I decided to run, but it’s something I don’t like to talk about. It’s something I’m not proud of. It happened over 20 years ago. I had to leave a husband who was addicted to drugs. I stole food to feed my kids. I’m so glad I’m not the woman I was back then.

From there we could go to Media Trackers Colorado for some more:

Public records show that her disregard for the state’s laws continued well into her tenure as an elected lawmaker.  State court records reveal multiple offenses committed by Fields that were not previously reported, including at least one while holding public office at the state level.

Although she claims she’s glad she’s “not the woman I was back then [in 1976],” how about 1998, when she pleaded guilty to writing bad checks in Fort Collins and had to pay fines and court costs of $344, narrowly missing the opportunity to spend a little time cooling her heels behind bars.

Or how about the woman she was in 2007, 2009, and 2011 when she “demonstrated a willful disregard for state and traffic laws,” according to Media Trackers?

Here’s the point Media Trackers was making:

Given that Fields has chosen a high profile role in pushing for new restrictions on gun and ammunition ownership, her past record of ignoring simple traffic laws calls into question her assumption that violent criminals will abide by any new gun restrictions.

Hypocrisy is defined as “promoting or trying to enforce standards, attitudes, lifestyles, virtues, beliefs, principles, etc., that one does not actually hold.” Would that apply to Fields, I wonder?
