Have nothing to do with the [evil] things that people do, things that belong to the darkness. Instead, bring them out to the light... [For] when all things are brought out into the light, then their true nature is clearly revealed...

-Ephesians 5:11-13

Bob’s Take

He wrote this at white heat in the middle of the night. A million people have read it. It’s that good.

Larry Correia’s gun control article been read by a million people!

It’s not surprising, either. It is one of the most carefully crafted and well thought out pieces I’ve read. It’s also generated nearly 2,500 comments!

Larry Correia’s background is quite remarkable and simply adds credibility to what he says. His article is 18 pages long and it gives me great comfort that so many have taken the time to read it and to comment on it. He brings to light some points that I didn’t know:

The average number of people shot in a mass shooting event when the shooter is stopped by law enforcement: 14. The average number of people shot in a mass shooting event when the shooter is stopped by civilians: 2.5. The reason is simple. The armed civilians are there when it started.

Provided, of course, that they’re armed. More importantly, that they want to be armed and have made the decision to be armed and that they take their increased responsibility that comes from being armed very seriously.

But the teachers and staff who have taken the time and trouble and spent the money to get their concealed weapons permit and purchased a firearm and taken the time to get familiar with it doesn’t mean that they all of a sudden become professionals. To stop a deranged shooter, they don’t need to be:

But teachers aren’t as trained as police officers! True, yet totally irrelevant. The teacher doesn’t need to be a SWAT cop or Navy SEAL. They need to be speed bumps.

Most shooters are wimps and fold like a cheap suit the moment they are confronted with armed resistance and become aware that they might get hurt. And so it isn’t necessary for every teacher to pack. Just those who want to:

In my experience, the only people who are worth a darn with a gun are the ones who wish to take responsibility and carry a gun. Make it voluntary. It is rather simple. Just make it so that your state’s concealed weapons laws trump the Federal Gun Free School Zones act. All that means is that teachers who voluntarily decide to get a concealed weapons permit are capable of carrying their guns at work. Easy. Simple. Cheap. Available now.

Did you catch that? Let the local school boards decide. Let them nullify the feds and their “gun free zones” idiocy. As Correia points out, such laws provide shooters with “target rich environments” and ”hunting preserves” for shooters.

It took Correia four hours to write his article. It took me an hour to read it and underline the salient parts and then three-hole punch it and put it into my binder marked “important articles.” You might want to do the same.  Here’s the link again.
